  • The Prepaid SIM for data/calls thread

I've been collecting prepaid micro SIM cards for use in the places I frequent most : Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore. More than happy to share this info if anyone is interested.

Just wondering if there are any operators who operate on a Pan-European basis.

I'm looking for a prepaid Data Sim card that'll work in most EU countries, i.e. Roam within Europe whilst paying local (to that country) rates ?

It's slightly OT but I'm looking for mobile phone SIM cards in Malaysia and Singapore that the phone numbers don't expire if I recharge at least once a year. Does anyone have info? I'm taking AirAsia to KL from Singapore and apparently TunesTalk offers their SIM card for SGD2.50 though I have no idea if the number's gonna expire if I don't recharge often.

Mr Lee - I've got a Starhub one that allows me to put 10 SGD or so via credit card and the number doesn't expire - but it wasn't cheap - i paid SGD 50 for it (63 value).

Try Vodafone or T-mobile pre-paid in U.K. since it has roaming capability that covers almost all EU countries but I forgot their rates, you may check it out from their respective web site:

Thanks - very helpful. The one thing I've noticed the last few times is that I do the research on the cards I want, and when I arrive at the foreign airport, I don't actually get the one I researched because I'd usually buy it from the first counter I came across.

I researched getting an M1 card in Singapore, a CSL one in Hong Kong and an AIS one in Thailand.

Ended up going with Starhub, Three and DTAC respectively - simply because they were sold in my line of sight as you exit the customs and immigration. Not sure they were the better deals though!

I use the Telestial Passport SIM for my travels within Europe as I do receive a fair amount of incoming calls.
