  • Providing ID on AU domestic flights

    Hi,

When flying domestic in the UK you must provide photographic identification. I totally agree with this. I flew some domestic flights in Australia BNE > SYD & SYD > BNE. I flew with Virgin Blue and Qantas. Nobody asked at any point for any ID. I could have booked under any old name.

I would have thought that would have been key.

Is this normal? Why don't they ask for ID?

    Thanks

They do ask... sometimes From my experience..

Few years ago, the ID thing is very strict, i was asked all the time to show my ID.

But now, it's not that strict anymore, it's depend on the check in person, but most of the time they don't care anymore.

IME, if you take advantage of online check in or self service check in with either QF or DJ, then in all likelihood you wouldn't be asked for ID at all. If you're checking in the old fashioned way, the check in staff will usually ask for ID.

In fact, The Chaser played a prank on DJ some years ago that highlights this:

The only exception to this are the domestic flights which operate from international terminals (eg JQ36 MEL-SYD), in which case ID is definitely required.
