'Fourth Consecutive Year' - this is a strong message to me.

            Incheon Wins “Best Airport Worldwide”
            Fourth Consecutive Year

Denver (April 20, 2009) — Incheon International Airport in Seoul, Korea, has been voted
2008 “Best Airport Worldwide” by Airport Council International’s Airport Service Quality
Award Program. Incheon claimed this honor in 2005, 2006 and 2007, granting a four-year
winning streak – the first airport in history to achieve this. The airport, designed by Fentress
Architects, was named 2007 and 2008 “Best Airport Worldwide” by the Official Airline Guide.

            2008 Airport Service Quality Awards.
            “Best Airport World Wide”: Incheon
“Best Airport by Region” – Asia-Pacific: Incheon
“Best Airport by Size” – 25-40 million passengers: Incheon
            “Airport People Awards”: Incheon

Survey Background. The Airport Council International’s Airport Service Quality rankings
are based on results from nearly 200,000 questionnaires completed by passengers in 2008.
This survey captures the passenger’s immediate evaluation of 34 airport service factors,
from check-in to gate departure. The ‘airport people award’ recognizes a strong customer
service culture across the entire airport community, which has been rated by passengers as
having the most courteous and helpful airport, airline and security staff.

Inspired Design. Rejecting the cold, high-tech, homogenized feel common to many modern
airports, the architects for Incheon’s passenger terminal sought to affirm feelings of warmth
and welcome. The design finds overt and subtle ways to create a memorable gateway to
the region and haven for weary travelers by infusing the airport with the rich heritage of
Korean culture. The passenger terminal’s welcoming arc embraces arriving patrons. Masts
and a catenary roof support system emulate the large anchored ships docked in the nearby
Incheon Harbor. The gentle arc of ancient Korean temples can be seen in the terminal's
sweeping rooflines. The roof’s clerestories and skylights provide enough daylight to allow
cultivation of traditional Korean gardens, which lend the space a peaceful and inviting feel.

I think that Changi Airport has received quite a few complaints about security. 1 major point is that there is no seperate screening for premium passengers. Also having 1 or 2 screening points at each gate really causes a jam when its a 744 or large single decker like the 773.

Sorry, but it says absolutely nothing to me. No award ever does. I trust my personal experiences first and foremost, not something printed in a magazine or on a website.

The vast majority of awards that are handed out are a farce due to the fact that there are so many of the bloody things these days everybody wins something or other.

I really like ICN for the architecture and layout, but SIN is definitely better for the vast array of passenger amenities such as pool (!), fitness centre, a decent transit hotel and etc. I would never think about remaining airside for 4+ hours at ICN, whereas I'm sure it's quite easy to spend twice that at SIN airside.

NRT T1 was my favourite airport for photography, with the wall-to-wall windows in the gate area that you can get right up close. That, and the fact that just about every aircraft parking there is a widebody from all corners of the world.

I really believe that Changi Airport will have difficulty taking top spot at Skytrax whilst SIA ignores the complaints from its Krisflyer Gold Passengers for the downgrading the Krisfyler Gold Lounge in T1 as well as failing to provide showers/bathroom amenities in the T3 Gold Lounge. The change in direction make it more diffciult to freshen up en-route which seems quite inapproprate given that Chanigi is the hub for SIA.

The lack of showers in the new T3 gold lounge and the fact that Star Alliances in different airports provide additional shower and bathroom facilities have constently been brought up in Skytrax comments. I would imagine that the frequent flyers would have a greater influence over the outcome of Skytrax and the league table of interanational airports.

I have provided a number of positive comments regarding SIA itself in Skytrax, however, I cannot bring be as pro-active for Chainghi whilst the Star Alliance facilities for gold members are superior in other airports.
