Really depends on what your priorities are.

My cousin always takes the seats right at the back of the bus.. window seats along row 61-64.
    • Only 2 seats so a cosy twosome
    • Space by the window for putting stuff

Personally I'd get a preferred seat by the emergency exit

    • Come on, guys...

I think nickbot was not really asking what seat is best on the 744 Y - or is it a real question and I got it wrong thinking he asked just to test if the HUGE thread police is watching???

Gosh, the floodgates have opened with regard to OT-ness! In short, I would say it's a matter of resale value; a full dealer VW service history is valued for a second hand car, but *the* most important issue is that one has a service history. I myself use an independant VW specialist and trust him more than my local main dealer. If you've just come out of the warranty period and are thinking of selling the car in the next couple of years, I would probably just stick with main dealer service. Please feel free to PM me for more discussion and I'll be only too happy to help

Thanks for the tips 9V-SIA (I happen to agree with your cousin BTW), but as N_Architect spotted I was testing the strength of the HUGE one's radar for OT-ness and non searching tolerance

Anyhow, back on topic, today I shall be enjoying a round of nine holes followed by a spot of ballroom dancing

The HUGE one is a clueless one where camera lingo is concerned. We are definitely safe here.

Such an energetic afternoon with Mrs Nickbot!

No, it's not your eyes . It's me and my lousy skills. They were all shot in RAW and then had the "tungsten" WB applied to it. It's actually quite a bit darker in reality than is shown in the pics - these were lightened a bit, so I think that's where the washing out comes from.

                  • SQflyergirl - next time, try switching to "auto" and then manually adjust the colour bars to your liking to recreate. Leave the camera to Auto WB. The camera will never be better than the human eye at this and you have more control as you are shooting RAW.

Will try this out. Thanks for the tips, the both of you!

OT! OT!(I know this should be in the car thread)

Just curious. What's the cost of maintaining a VW Golf in UK?

I'd find out when I can get the car to the garage before MOT at the end of the month. *ouch* The only consolation is that I get some BD miles because I'd be using my BD card!

Would update you in the relevant thread.

                          • Please feel free to nudge this over to the car thread, but in short for new cars:

                            http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/o...servicing-plan

Generally I reckon on perhaps £150 per year or therabouts (excluding tyres) for my golf, but certain elements (4WD Haldex oil/filters for example) can push this up a little.

It was reported today that this car has one of the highest MOT failure rates - around 20%:

One of the "gadgets" I bought recently was a SpyderCube. It's a small plastic cube with different coloured sides, a tripod socket and a dangly string (to hang the cube from). The theory goes that you take a test photo with the SpyderCube in the picture and from that, you can derive known values for adjusting WB in Lightroom etc. I haven't yet tried it though.

                              • re: spidercube

Is that only for stills or studio? I watched the video but it was so boring and didn't not really answer my questions.

If I am at home with friends or family at 9pm on a nice winter night and want to take some pictures, what do I do? Take a shot with the cube in the picture, go to my room open the PC, open LR, set the correct WB, disconnect the camera and then go back and take my intended shot with the recommended WB? (phew!)

                                I don't understand...

I'm sure there's theory behind this (the white, gray, black surfaces on the cube, etc.) but for 30 quid I don't think so unless it can help you instantly take a good shot.

Anyway, jhm when you try pls do let us know, it'll be interesting to see the ease of use and results.
