  • What to do in Calgary and Montreal???

    Hello everyone,

I'm helping one of my friend to find informations about Calgary and Montreal...

He is going to Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary (This June) but he doesn't have any info about the last 2 cities...

If anyone has informations about recommended activities, places to eat, accommodation, how many days should we spend in each cities, or any other informations...please kindly reply in this thread...

    Thank you for your help....

Sorry... can't be helpful here. have not been in Calgary for a long time. For Montreal, well, the guide books are the good sources. And again, depending on the person since I have learned my lesson for giving recommendations. Lets the young and hip crowds here help you. I am too old and conservative in this board.

There the Stampede in Calgary but I cannot recall which month the event occurs. Just pop down to your local library and borrow a few guide books.

Well, Montreal has the French section and the regular section I believe. And yes there is the Village. But again, I am afraid of going off the-so-called family topics here.
Oh the airport looks old. I took the airport bus to go to the city as well as from the city back. Not everyone's cuppa tea, but that's me.

Never been to Montreal, but aiming at going soonish as a friend is on exchange over there - heard it's party central.

edit: I seem to recall a TR of YUL on here but can't find it. Or am I imagining things?

why goto Calgary when you can come to Edmonton

here's some events going on in Calgary(YYC):
-Calgary Stampede (July 4-13) very western themes w/ Rodeo competitions going on through out the day and a big amusement park fair
-Calgary tower (sort of like CN Tower)
              -Olympic Park
-few hours away from Banff National Park
-Krispy Kreme donuts (to die for)

Edmonton (YEG) Events (only 3 hour drive north from Calgary)
-Capital Ex (same as stampede) but we got an international fair display of a different country each year + amusement park (July 17-26)
-Champcar/Indy cart racing same weekend as capital ex
-Taste of Edmonton (a fair with lots of international foods to eat at Churchill Square)
-Heritage days (Aug 1,2,3) big fair in Hawerlack Park with over 60+ countries displaying stuff
-West Edmonton Mall (Canada's biggest shopping center) (Formerly world's biggest shopping center)
              -Fringe Festival (street performers festival)

Exactly what I wanted to post. I base my whole travel itineraries on TravelWiki. It's quite a reliable tool if you do not wish to spend bucks on travel guide books that rot at the back of your bookshelf anyway.

                  Have a good one!

                    Restaurant Au Pied de Cochon

If you're a foodie, I can certainly vouch for this Montreal restaurant:

Montreal is my city, and I'm so proud of it...yes we do things very half-as*ed but hey its fun to watch

Now that the Canadianl GP has come and went (awesome!!) summer has unoffically began in Montreal...with that said, From June 26th to July 6, is the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal (the Montreal Jazz Fest), the largest in the world...even if you are not a Jazz fan (like me) the outdoor shows in the evening at Place Des Arts is an experience in itself (furthermore its not always Jazz)..

Later on, from July 10th to July 20th is the Festival Juste Pour Rire, also known as the Just for Laughs festival...again the largest of it's kind in the world, sorry Melbourne

If you've ever rode the bus in Singapore they sometimes show JFL Gags; well thats a Canadian (more like a Montreal show) playing practical jokes on random people in the public..its always great to see the shows...while they do have outdoor free shows, i enjoy going to the clubs to see stand up comedy

Montreal is a great place to shop; it's not LA, NY, London, or Paris, but it still gets the job done.

EDIT: Another thing Montreal is famous for, although this time of year it is not needed, is having one of the biggest underground cities in the world (in the downtown core)...with the temperature in winter being able to dip below -20 (-30 with the windchill), yeah you need to hide (unless you're me who loves the cold, and loves listening to his car struggle to star in the morning after being idle for about 8 hours lol)

Eating, well...tell me where in this planet can you pay 0.59$ and get a steamed hot dog

If you want to know more, please feel free to ask

Oh yeah, if/while in Montreal, you do not have a poutine, yeah hang your head in shame...you are to ingest a poutine...that is truly an order
I'm still waiting for my cookie as my first name is Kris

                        Poutine.

That brings back memories of the 3 weeks I spent in Trois Rivieres (with a few days in Montreal afterwards) a good few years ago....

                          Hahaha

For the rest of you this is what poutine is. It's like smoking...the first time you smoke you get all sick and stuff, but then you want another and another...yeah poutine as well...pretty much the only food that looks the same...well i don't want to finish that thought

EDIT: I have to admit, this article on wikipedia is terribly written...
