The world's most dubious airline awards for 2012 are out

A friend Whatsapped me this morning to tell me about it. Its scary how Skytrax is seen by many as the Oscars of the airline inudstry now. 2 bananas for the genius who decided to name it the "World Airline Awards"

SQ was in second place for 3 years with CX, OZ and QR being 1st in that order for those years. QR is 1st again this year with SQ falling to 3rd. SQ hasn't been paying have they

I would have expected them to win Best Business Class but Best Economy and Best Economy Meals? no way. I travel in Economy mainly and EK beats the crap out of SQ for Y catering. Ah well, why am I trying to rationalise Skytrax!

Dubious though the awards may be, the fall of NZ from 7 to 17th isn't a surprise. Actually, the nature of the voting probably under-estimates the decline at NZ across the board. All of their recent "innovations" have confused the hell out of everyone.

The Skytrax awards are more like All-Stars in US sports, most popular but not necessarily the best. Good entertainment though.

SQ wins best Economy Class

So, the results of Skytrax's 2012 "World Airline Awards" are out.

SQ won best economy class (I'm a little surprised) but was 3rd on the "coveted" airline of the year award.

I believe the award is for *overall* best Economy Class, which includes both the hard and soft product. Given that, it should not be relevant which a/c type it is on.

Note that Asiana Airlines received the best economy class seat award...
