  • Gone with the wind....

    Well, almost.

I had to rescue a small child from almost literally being swept away by the wind yesterday afternoon - he tumbled right into me as I walked out of my office.

"Jeez the wind's a tad strong today," I thought, as I picked up my chai latte and turned back into my office blissfully unaware, though struggling a little bit in my walk against the winds. Windows were rattling but as I'm not in a tall building I probably didn't notice.... until a chair from a nearby cafe got blown into one of the windows.

Anyhoo - I hope other SQTalkers in VIC, SA and TAS coped ok with the gales.

    Wild windstorms roll across south

Amanda Hodge and Michael Davis | April 03, 2008

DRY, angry winds whipped seven years of dust and misery back into the faces of Victorian and South Australian farmers, thousands of city workers were left stranded without transport and two people were killed as a wild weather front caused turmoil in three states yesterday.

Winds reaching up to almost 140km/h thrashed across southern Australia, uprooting trees, crushing cars, razing buildings and terrorising commuters.

Thousands of houses in Melbourne and Adelaide were blacked out, traffic on major city bridges and in tunnels was paralysed, trains shut down and at least two families were devastated after a 57-year-old woman was killed by a falling brick wall and a body was pulled out of the wreckage of a building site.

The trail of damage stretched thousands of kilometres across the country.
