  • Singapore Buffet

Silly question from a Singaporean who should know better ... but I have not been keeping up with the makan news in Singapore for years.

Which hotels offer the best/delicious SE Asian/Nyona buffets?

Please advise. Thanks in advance for your help!

Plaza Market Cafe at Raffles the Plaza would be a reasonable bet.

There's one at Copthorne King's but I've not tried so can't comment

    See here for a guide:

      Slightly OT but:

http://www.nyonya.co.uk/ (a few minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate tube in London)

Traditional Nyonya cuisine in West London's heart

Nyonya in Notting Hill marks a new departure from London’s usual Asian offerings with an affordable cuisine that combines Malay and Chinese traditions delivered by one of Singapore’s premier restaurateur families, the Yeohs. ‘It was a difficult decision moving to London, leaving so many regulars back home who know us and our particular style of cooking,’ says Malaysian chefs Mary and her husband, Yeoh Teng Chye. Their unpretentious Penang-style buffets at the Copthorne King’s Hotel, had, for some 13 years, pulled in Singapore’s great and good, from fashion mavens to parliamentarians. ‘But my family all felt from our visits to London that there was a sorry lack of good value restaurants selling interesting food. That’s why we have created Nyonya, an easy-going pit-stop where you can enjoy a quick, inspiring eat.’
phaleesy and I have been a few times but not for a long time now.

I like the one at the Hyatt:

Whilst you probably can get better individual dishes elsewhere, there is a huge range of local food here, including desserts in very nice, comfortable surrounds. Make sure you book....

I always have one dinner here when I pass through Spore.

I was in this Hotel earlier this month and it's now called the Fairmont Singapore.

It is indeed the Fairmont now. It was all rather confusing and I felt so silly, since I was walking about trying to look for Raffles the Plaza and all I could see was the Stamford and Fairmont.

I've had a look at the buffet selection at the Hyatt last year and it does have a good local selection. In fact, comparing the two, Hyatt might have a better selection of local food.

However, Market Plaza cafe is also very good, though it's more international than local. I think the $31++ is value for money. Lots of western style dishes (pasta, chicken, salad etc), Japanese (soba, sushi, sashimi), local food (beef rendang, chicken curry, ginger chicken, seabass) and great great local nyonya desserts, including Movenpick ice-cream and pastries/cakes.

The durian pudding is excellent! They even had tang yuan, which my mom mistakenly thought was fishball soup (at the dessert counter?!) because she's too vain to wear her glasses. I also had two servings of pig maw soup (yummy pig innards ).
