  • I got my first cell phone in Jan/Feb 2001 (second hand) and then a new one shortly there-after. Since then I have changed my phone 13 times (bah bad number)...not because the device broke on me, but because i loved having a nice device. However, my lust truly began in June 2003 when I switched over from CDMA to GSM tech (ie from Bell Mobility to Rogers Wireless)...and well since then I have been changing phones quite frequently.

With that said, I have been using the same PPC/PDA phone since May 2006 (Victoria Day weekend)...Qtek S200 (HTC Prophet)...i have been actively seeking out the Sony Ericsson X1a, and after seeing it live (well the X1i) in Vegas this past Decemeber, it is really a nice device. BUT, at 800 USD MSRP, and consequently about 1100 CAD (+ taxes and shipping) it is way outside of my league. I am not adverse to spending money to get a good device, but there are limits to my madness.

I really do like the HTC Touch HD, however, while teh screen would be a huge upgrade for me (going from QVGA 320x240 to WVGA 800x480), the lack of US 3G bands is a real bummer! EDGE (EGPRS) is alright I guess, but an upgrade is supposed to be, well, an upgrade right

But my Qtek S200 has followed me to a whole bunch of countries thanks to it being factory unlocked..in Australia, Vodaphone; Thailand, AIS One-2-Call; Singapore, M1 Prepaid; and in the US, AT&T Prepaid

Thanks to howardforums.com (thats how I got my username as I am registered as hofo_mofo there) and of course XDA-Developers my lust for PPC/PDA phones will never stop..and well also the funny things mentioned by msmobiles.com is a nice addition as well. gsmarena.com is also a good website for research purposes.

Hopefully after the leak of the 2009 HTC Roadmap, something good may come my way.

      • Singtel re-stocked the iPhone today, 7th Oct. went down to the Tampines store to purchase, arrive at 1005 hours, the queue was 50++.... by the time the store open at 1100hours, the queue swelled to 100 ++.... fortunately for me, I have this Red Pristige (Singtel equivalent to PPS hahahaa.... I did not join the line, went straight to the front when doors opened, showed my card and was directed to a CSO immediately, ... hahhaa.. think I was cursed by many people behind....

got out of the store a happy man with 2 sets...

        • I hate my Sony Ericsson W980. I think this is the last SE phone I will use. The software either freezes or crashes all the time, and the words on the screen tend to get all jumbled up after checking gmail or facebook. I'd also experienced similar problems with my last phone which incidentally was also an SE. Alas I didn't learn my lesson and got another SE after Optus offered to upgrade my contract for free. SE phones might be pretty but they're not the most reliable. Twice bitten, thrice shy.

I tried to upgrade my Optus contract to an Iphone a week or so ago but 2 dealers I popped into said that they'd ran out of Iphones. They'd also assured me that all of Australia is out of Iphones - which I know is BS (as my neighbour recently got one through Vodafone) unless they're referring to Optus specifically. I might have better luck at some random suburban dealer...

          • KeithMel,

I believe SE have just released the Satio - which from all reviews looks to be pretty swell...

Not too sure when it's planned release is here in Australia, but it looks like my next purchase after having the iPhone - the novelty has worn off

I have that too. And like you, people always give me that dirty look when I go to the front of the queue and flash the card.

              Congrats on your purchase

                      • Here's something I don't understand...

By observation, Blackberry is by far the dominant business phone in SE Asia. I would think that RIM would be rushing upgraded products out to this market.

Yet at the moment RIM is still riding on the Bold, which has been out for more than a year, with no sign of the latest models like the Tour and Onyx...

                        • I don't know the facts but speculate that perhaps most Blackberries are purchased by businesses for their staff to use and the new Blackberries don't do anything better from a business point of view (i.e. e-mailing) which the old ones do. So there's no demand for upgrades ? And RIM are presumably making enough money from their backend products without needing to constantly churn out phones like other manufacturers.

                          • It seems to me that BB is also very dominant in the personal smartphone space - i.e. individuals who use BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)...

                              • Decided to get this twin-SIM phone, as coming up here I wanted to have both my Greek (personal) but also my local (business) mobile phone cards in one device.

One phone, one charger, one set of batteries. Simpler is better, especially when travelling or going in/out of office frequently.

Battery duration could be better, though.

[Unbelievable I chose a Korean phone, yes, I know... And it's not only Korean, it's made by Samsung as well... and wait till you read this: I'm typing all this text in a Samsung 15.4" laptop pc which I bought back in May '06...]
