Q's from a first-time visitor about arrival in Australia

Can only answer two questions:-

1. How does this ETA visa thing work? I've got one now. Will I need to show the number to SQ when I check in at SIN, or can they see it attached to my passport number? Will I need the confirmation page when I get to Australia?

I applied my online. AT LHR, SQ just swiped my passport thro the top of their check-in keyboard. All smooth sailing. ManFlyer did suggest a good idea- take a print out as a worst case scenario.

4. Are Australian immigration and customs officers really as, um, charming as they've been portrayed?

Because of similarity of your status as I, I am not sure how you'll be treated. As you know, I was born elsewhere and obviously not the origin of my travel papers..... I think there might be a stereotype that all Brits should be WASP. My colleague (a Chinese British passport holder) was asked why he does not speak with a UK accent.

After immigration, I was pulled aside. I was dressed nicely and then the Immigration Officer looked at my passport. He could not fathom why I came all the way for only one week.
