  • SIN-TPE flight path

I was on SQ880 early this morning. It took very "unusual" flight path.

I went north to West Malaysia East Cost toward Vietnam, it flew above Vietnam and then to the right (south of Hainan Island I believe) toward Southern Taiwan and then up north to Taipei.

It is rather unusual. Normally it will go east from Singapore toward Kalimantan (Borneo) and then north along west of Philippines.

I suspect this is because of Typhoon on Philippines which is not moving toward Taiwan already.

The flying time is about the same for both 4.5 hours. But why the "normal" path is preferred. Any idea?

OK that makes sense... less dense traffic.... only Taipei bound and Philipines bound route will be there...

Any Borneo bound for the first leg....

Well I am waiting to see the flight path on my return flight on Tuesday. Crossing my finger there will be no cancelation

A flight's flight path is determined by many factors which includes wind conditions, weather, payload, weather and serviceability along the alternate airports, over-flight charges and the necessary approval by the ATC's of the airspace they'll be flying over and any technical limitations imposed on the aircraft(MEL).

I was on a flight back two weeks back from ICN to SIN, that was when the Typhoon Nanmadol just cleared Philipines and was bearing down towards Taiwan.... the flight took a slight detour east of Taiwan, normally this flight pass above Taipei towards Singapore... well, the seat belts sign was on throughout the flight....

Well I can understand why but was there no service from the crew at all?
