  • How would T3 cope with the new entry procedure to the US?

Due to this idiot who set off explosives prior to landing in DTW on NW/ DL flight, BA and AY have implemented several measures that makes traveling to the US more difficult.

    http://edition.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12...ers/index.html

Some of the measures that AY has implemented including no moving on aisles one hour and no contact with hand luggage one hour before landing into the US. BA has also reduced the number of permitted hand luggage to 1 per pax.

The US DOT has also required all airlines to perform 100% secondary screening of all US bound passengers and their hand luggages prior to boarding. I wonder how this would affect the queue at T3. The current security process has already caused several long lines at this new terminal in Changi.

This would probably apply only to SQ22/38 since its non-stop to the US. SQ12/2/62/26 all stop enroute and the additional security would be carried out at those enroute airports. Since SQ22/38 are 100 (98) seater planes, it shouldn't be that long.

I do hope that would be the case. SQ's website has not yet published any new policy regarding this.

From Singapore's Straits Times : --> Changi Airport steps up checks

        Changi Airport steps up checks

        Dec 27, 2009

SINGAPORE'S Changi Airport on Saturday stepped up security measures for non-stop flights to the United States, hours after a suspected terrorist attack on a Detroit-bound airliner from Amsterdam.

The measures include pat-down checks - or physical body checks - for boarding passengers, said airport spokesman Ivan Tan.

Passengers on Singapore Airlines (SIA) Flight SQ38 to Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon were the first to experience the added security measures requested by the American authorities.

SIA also adopted added security measures for US-bound flights.

SIA's spokesman said: 'One hour before the plane lands in a US airport, all passengers must be seated, and should not have any baggage near them or be covered with any blanket. The inflight entertainment system would also be turned off.'

I do not understand how this one hour rule could help. I agree it is ridiculous that we all have to strap in so early in advance.

I can live with no IFE one hour before landing but no lavatory visit one hour prior to landing is going to make a lot people suffer.

I concur. Keeping in mind that with traffic or weather hold at EWR, one hour can turn into two hours.

I don't get what difference this will make but I suppose they had to come up with something if only to show they are doing something to 'increase security'.

I just really hope they keep it to just US flights and don't go off on a tangent on all of them, just to show they are doing something, again.

Indeed. Last time I did the nonstop to EWR we circled for about 30 mins.

Changi Airport, SIA step up security checks

Changi Airport, SIA step up security checks

                  Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 27 December 2009

SINGAPORE : Passengers flying to the US from Singapore can now expect stricter security checks, including body searches.

These are among the global stepped-up measures requested by US authorities, following a foiled bomb attack over Detroit on Christmas Day.

Singapore Airlines operates 35 flights to the United States every week.

And on Friday, security measures on-board were tightened to include - among other rules - requiring passengers to be seated during the final hour of the flight.

In-flight entertainment systems will also be shut off then, and blankets will have to be removed.

And like Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific and South Korea's Korean Air, the use of cabin phones will also be restricted.

But once travellers arrive in the US, they can also expect more security checks.

On the ground, airlines worldwide have also enforced extra screening and airports have also stepped up security.

Since Saturday afternoon, all passengers flying non-stop to the US from Changi Airport have had to go through physical body checks as part of additional security measures. These checks could take a while, and queues might be expected to form, so passengers are advised to get to the airport a little earlier, to give themselves enough time.

Most passengers are taking the added measures in their stride.

One passenger said: "With regards to a male touching a female, that would be something wrong. But if it is a female in contact with a female, I am alright with it."

Another commented: "If they are having people go on the planes with potential bombs, I think it is important to make sure they get rid of any signs of that by doing...personal body checks. They do that already in Switzerland anyway."

Some passengers at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris have also reported facing additional baggage restrictions.

They were not allowed any carry-on luggage except women's handbags. - CNA/ir/ms

Actually this is very strange. Who define that this kind of thing will only happen to flight into USA and not any other country?

May be one day, nothing is allow to carry on board.
