Definitely has to be Nogawa. Its a Japanese restaurant at the Le Meridien on Orchard road. Started by the famous Nogawa-san, known as Singapore's sushi master who's trained many of the island's current sushi chefs. He's even got a restaurant over at the Japanese association building. Singapore's top figures like Lee Kuan Yew and President Nathan have been diners there as well. Just so fresh and the overall quality is right up there with the best in Tokyo or Osaka!
I second the choice of Nogawa. It has been voted as the best Japanese restaurant in SIN quite consistently.
Another recommendation of mine would be Tatsuya Japanese Restaurant located in the Park Hotel Orchard which serves really high quality sushi and sashimi.
They can be really really pricey for the dinner menu and also depending what you order. That said, Tatsuya also does serve excellent set lunches for very reasonable prices at around 30-40SGD if the pricing is still the same.
Guess the only way to have a definite answer is a Kikuzawa-Kinokawa face off... Anyone for a SIN-CGK Sushi Do?
You can count me in for the SIN -CGK Sushi Do.
I have been to several good Japanese restaurants in Jakarta (including Ebeya which to me is the best Japanese teppanyaki around and Honzen - good sushi as well) but I am yet to find one that I consider good in Singapore. However, I am continuously on a quest for one.
I will try to sample all the restaurants recommended here - hopefully I will be able to put one or two on my favorite list.
The best sushi restaurant that I have been to so far was this little establishment in Shinju-ku. The sushi master there (who also used to be a sushi chef in Jakarta) created a lot of different types of sushi with the freshest ingredients of the day. It was unfortunate that the place had to close down in 2006.
If you or your father are feeling particularly carnivourous, I'd suggest this great Japanese BBQ place at UE Square some SQTalkers brought me to earlier this week - Gyu Kaku. The beef platter was sensational (v nice Wagyu) and fed 4 of us really well.
