  • sleeping at changi airport

I came across the article as linked below. I suspect that the family simply had arrived on a flight between the hours of 12 and 5.30am when public transport was scarce and their income could not justify the lavish lifestyle often described in this forum. ie, hiring one of those expensive cabs etc...

I'm aware of posters here posting how they rent a room at the transit hotel and so forth after landing and leaving way after the flight arrived. Some even posting of late nights drinking insane amount of champagne in the SKL...I wonder if our foreign friends can relate if they have encountered any resistence such as that described in the link below.

Unfortunately, he never quite explained which part of the "restricted zone" he was in, given that some areas are more "restricted" than others.

If he needed a place to crash without leaving the airport or booking the transit/airport hotel, he could have done it at the "less restricted" area like the viewing gallery. Seen quite a number of people doing it without ever getting bothered by anyone. If he's in the transit area, there's even a proper lounging area available.

Apparently, they are not aware that Singapore is the best airport to sleep in (http://www.sleepinginairports.net/20...t-airports.htm) if they had stayed away from the restricted area.

Seems like the family don't have onward journey boarding pass. Since they are not transitting passengers, they can't stay at the airside. I think that's why the officers asked them to leave.

Usually it's fine to stay at the airside after landing, but at 3-4am, there are always police officers going around the airport checking everyone's passport and BP.

It wasn't mentioned which part of the airside they were in. But I've personally stayed in the airside for around 3 to 4 hours a couple of times when I planned to meet up with friends who were flying in on another flights.

Most of the times they were during the day or "normal" hours. About twice was in the wee hours of the morning. Nothing happened to me though. Security patrol just walked past me. I was at one of the tables with power points. Plugged myself in and either watched videos, did some work or played some games.

everyone who passes thru Changi knows that loads of pple overnight there. The other bit is there are CCTVs covering every aspects of Changi.

So I imagine STOMPer cited in OP must have drawn some attention before security attended to him, and took those action. That account was one perspective; I am sure the report filed by security will be rather different

official response from "the horse's mouth"

            http://static.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sgs...id_reason.html

I'm not in the business of telling other people what they can or cannot do.
I'm not sure which poster previously posted they were in the transit area "without a valid reason." But i guess its something to be aware of.

I have experienced the exact matter above. They too said the same thing to me. I agreed to leave. However they held me back saying that they would want to escort me out until the immigration.

I think thats abit too much to "escort". They knew my intention to wait until morning till the public transport starts and they knew its better to stay at the airside as its more comfortable.

I was at T3 at that time and i said i would want to exit at T1 as the public area has got better place to sleep. They said " No. You have to exit at the nearest immigration".
