I don`t seem to have any problems at Changi with having to take my laptop out off its bag, always gone through in its bag, must have been lucky all the times I`ve been!
Would not have had enough time some times anyway 2 seconds to get through before plane leaves comes to mind, bag push through x-ray machine at the speed off light and superman jump across closing air bridge, with security moaning (in the back ground) they could not see my bag because it went through so quickly and me replying that I did not have time to do it any slower.

Changi security, like many other airports, can be inconsistent with scan requests. '
The first few times I travelled with an Ipad I forgot to take it out of my hand luggage. The first time they spotted it and made it go back through, the next three or four times I left it in and nobody said anything. When they spotted it and made me take it out a few trips later I pointed out that I had been through a few times with it in my bag and nobody had said anything, to which I was told, to my astonishment, that 'it depends who is on the scanner.
Consistency, that's all we ask for......
