  • 5 hours transit time in Frankfurt, both ways

    Hi,

I have 5 hours transit time in Frankfurt. I would like to seek advice from experts here if I should head to the city or should simply stay in the airport and let the time fly. There are some tours from the airport that I could do as well.

If heading to the city, is there any sights or restaurants that I must visit?

Anyway, I'll be landing in FRA in the morning at 6am and on the return leg, landing at 4pm. If the shops don't open that early or shops close early, then it makes no sense to head to the city.

    Thanks in advance!

        Hi wobbegong,

Are you looking for German cuisine?

I once went to "Atschel" once which was not too bad. Not sure about the timing and distance from the airport though. I wouldn't say it is a "must" try though.

Colleagues of mine sometimes just end up at the Paulaner in the Squaire for some German cuisine before flying back to ZRH. Maybe this might be an option for you?

Instead of Frankfurt, you can take a commuter-type train to the town of Wiesbaden which has a beautiful old casino in a park right in the historic center. Unfortunately the train station there is a bit far, so you might want to take a short taxi ride rather than walking through the modern downtown shopping area.

Mainz is a bit farther and is a lovely historic small city on the Rhein, but the train service is not as frequent. You also need to be sure to use trains that stop in the center rather than stations on the wrong side of the river or in the suburbs. IMO this is too ambitious for 4-5 hours.
