  • Samui Airport closure / Thai Floods

    Hi All,

I have a client in Samui right now, stuck! Apparently half the islands been washed away, there is severe flooding and the airport has been closed the last 2 days. I have heard a few flights got in today - but the backlog is now very large. From what I've been told by TG in bangkok, everybody just has to show up at the airport and hope to get on a flight. It's quite a nightmare, I've been told drinking water supplies are low and conditions are not pleasant at all!

The military have apparently moved an aircraft carrier nearby to the island...

Anyone else have any info about this?

so it seems quite a few flights got out yesterday afternoon although there is still a backlog. It's quite a bad disaster over in Thailand reading the news today

I saw the headline the other day that Bangkok Airways had 'cancelled all flights to Samui' and wondered what was going on. Sounds pretty bad.

I am impressed they have got their aircraft carrier to sea, as that doesn't happen very often.*

*But at least they've still got one.....

The airport has re-opened now. Thai operated 3 special 737-400 flights on Wed and Thu to retrieve those from the cancelled flights on Monday and Tuesday.

I have a trip booked to Koh Samui on the 8th. Hopefully the situation will improve by then.
