  • Is a C-F upgrade worth 40K points

I am travelling LHR-SIN-SYD on tuesday, and my acocutn has just gone over 40K miles (Thanks for crediting so quickly LX!)

I can "afford" to upgrade ONE of my SIN-SYD legs (747) from C-F.

BUT i was wondering if it was worth 40k Miles ?

I can probably save the miles, but i dont understand the longevity of them ? (i understand they are reset to 0 at the end of the "qualifying year "

I am intending to travel to SYD again early next year, and wondered if it might be better to save them until then , and PAY for my wife to go Y and use to upgrade her to C with me ? (I understand that is 110k miles, NON 773/380)

Which of these options do you guys think represents better "value" ??

    Thanks for your opinions

Have you checked availability for the upgrade ? Just because you have the miles doesn't mean you can upgrade.

Your Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM) - which determines whether you requalify for KrisFlyer Elite Silver or get promoted to KrisFlyer Elite Gold - are reset at the end of your "qualifying" year. However, your redemption miles - used for upgrades - don't get reset - these miles only expire after 3 years (if I recall correctly) from when you earned them.

I think it'd be definitely be nicer to - subject to availability - upgrade both yourself and your wife to C for the shared experience.

Yes...have checked availability and it IS avail on both legs (as of right now)!

The only other issue is wether i can accumulate enough between now nad next year for Mrs D's upgrade....Gonna have to go do some maths !

Well it's still 55,000 miles for a one-way upgrade saver directly from LHR-SIN-SYD with no stopovers, looking at the SQ One-Way Upgrade Saver chart.

So 110,000 miles would theoretically only get one person both legs into C?

Or two people one-way each into C...

Maybe I'm not reading your question right somehow, did you intend to stay in Y next year and just upgrade your wife into C, or both of you get an upgrade?

I think you should save the miles for next year, since they are in no hurry to expire... but hey, if you wanna do F, no doubt it's gonna be nice!

          My 2 cents worth.

Until recently I have been using miles to upgrade from Y to C.

But more difficult with 77W/A345/A380 in the absence of saver awards

LHR-SIN-SYD is such a long flight, do the Y to C. F is overkill.

You won't be happy to travel C after that

Aren't miles like a drug. And so is traveling up front... highly addictive

I agree, if the miles are limited then C is definitely enough... We humans are never satisfied. Once you try F, you will start to notice the difference in C

The spacebeds in C are still pretty good IMHO so I would suggest that you save the miles for future use. Flying in first is definitely an experience but then once you get "seduced over to the dark side" of F, you might not want to travel in C anymore just like our famous reporter who is writing his fantastic TR.
You don't want that do you?

I completely agree with 9V-SIA's perspective on these two points. Fly C this time around and use the 110k miles next year to upgrade your wife along with your paid ticket and both of you can enjoy together.

                Cheers.
