Not sure if this helps or hinders the thread, but SQ are discounting all classes on the FRA-JFK route via SQ De website. Valid until year end. But, they are also discounting many destinations in First out of FRA.

Am flying FRA-JFK route in a month - will post how full the flight is.

For JFK-FRA-JFK, SQ is selling D fares at 35% off competitors' lowest fares. Valid until the end of schedule. It is the cheapest published transatlantic business fare for a mainline. The only lower fare I can find is JFK-ORY on EC in a 757.

Kind of strange for SQ as it doesn't usually compete on prices.

I'm headed east on SQ25 in 30 days, so we can compare loads by direction.

For sample dates Jan 1st-4th, I am seeing LH, CO, UA direct flights cheaper than SQ. Below are all-in return fares JFK-FRA-JFK:

          UA: $1930 direct/return/all-in
          LH: $1930 direct/return/all-in
          CO: $1951 via IAD/return/all-in

          SQ: $2737 direct/return/all-in

          cheers.

Those are sales Z fares valid during the holidays, roughly 19-Dec-09 to 01-Jan-10 departures. Very few business fliers during that time period. Z fares are also loaded with restrictions, very limited inventory, non-refundable, non-changeable, non-upgradeable (except LH), 21 day advance purchase, etc.

Why don't you try 15-Jan-10 departure? SQ refundable, changeable, upgradeable D fare is valid until the end of schedule.

            Cheers!

Hey what about a SIN-ZRH-JFK route? Then only will the A380 flying to Zurich be able to continue to JFK.

                ???

If SQ can't fill a 744 on the FRA-JFK route, they will never ever be able to fill an A380 out of ZRH, MUC or any other European airport (including LHR, whose JFK market is more than overcrowded, and CDG which is only a SkyTeam hub with too less *A feed).
77W on the FRA-JFK route would be always full. The only problem is: while a 77W would be suitable for the JFK tag of SQ25/26, the FRA-SIN segment desperately needs the A380. Ok, you might try upgauging SQ 325/326 from 77W to A380 and 25/26 down from 744 to 77W, but 25/26 has more demand than 325/326 (25/26 is red-eye and each flight has ~70 passengers transiting to/from JFK), so you would upgauge the wrong flight.
We can only wait and see how SQ will decide...

LHR has no *A JFK flights. If SQ do a SIN-LHR-JFK with the correct timings, i think they're on to a winner. But of course, just my humble opinion.

That may have been the case a couple of years ago, but LHR-JFK is not quite the Golden Pig it used to be at the moment.

LHR-JFK's a predminantly business route. SQ could never mount enough to match BA's frequency, which for the suit crowd, is king - and hence, I doubt it'd be too big a winner for our golden goose.

I was on SQ 25 last Saturday and the load for JFK - FRA was high 90% in C and Y and 8/12 in F and from FRA - SIN was full in C and Y and 10/12 in F. The crew did tell me that the load had picked up a lot lately.

Could it be because of the many promotions some months back? I remember JFK-FRA-JFK was only going for less than US$500 r/t

If SQ could get of their high horse and sell Suites as F instead of R (and you can still ask for any price you want, so what's the deal anyway?), they would have a very good chance of getting a lot of premium business: BA's F is old - very old - and there is no replacement coming soon...

BA will be rolling out a new F product starting in the next couple of months. With the current plan that it will be installed accross their fleet by the end of 2010 (although with the current economic situation at BA I'll believe that when I see it).

Maybe there is another option for the JFK route.

They could change the 744 to a 77W and just operate it between SIN - FRA which would probably be full. Then they could upgauge the remaining LHR flights to A380 and code share with Virgin accross the pond to JFK.

This would be better than a code share with LH as Virgin are of course 49% owned by SIA. The Virgin product is good (certainly better than LH and many others) and it would open up other options as well for passengers who maybe want to go to other east coast destinations that Virgin serves.
