Most probably SQ11/12 will be switched to B77W once CDG gets the A380 to free up the 77Ws currently serving the route.

I tried for June on J, but I may not be taking SQ, as the flight is likely to be cancelled because there are so few passengersOriginally posted by Kyo View PostflyKL: When is this booking for? I'm looking to try the 50% off Y redemptions on the KF promotions page...
JNB would be within easy reach, methinks!
But the pain of flying all the way to JNB in Y *groan*. I'd better sit in the toilet...
(sorry for the slight off-topic post)
If you want exact dates i'm planning, PM me

Yeah, the website shows 744 for September as well, which is when I'm hoping to travel. From what I heard, the demand is still too high for the 77W. Besides, I think this was a flight that was eventually gonna be used by the A380, so downgauging to the 77W may be pointless, unless they plan on using more flights. The only other flight is the A345 with an all-business class config, and that is too pricey for a lot of us.Originally posted by LionCity View PostThat will be good news for me. Singaporeair.com still shows 744. But I think you are right.

Shame but, that's life?
I have to agree with SQ management on this, and I can't say that very often. The MXP-BCN-MXP sectors can be heavily subsidised (And it's a fairly busy route with only the usual European poor product/service to compete with) IF BCN-SIN generates strong revenues. If not, it doesn't make sense. Some routes MIGHT have worked without the economic crisis, but that's a hypothetical question which is better answered later from a position of solvency?

i was just thinking how some of these destinations aren't really commercially viable, they're just "glamour" destinations that the airline wants to be associated with. so come the recession they're the first to be chopped.
i always thought moscow, barcelona and houston weren't particularly lucrative routes, i'm probably wrong but the chief cash cows would be the kangaroo routes, the SIN-LHR and SIN-SFO etc.

Sorry, but how would Moscow and Houston be considered "glamorous" destinations, when both are basically greyish industrial cities, especially the later? And Barcelona, being a major European tourist destination, is also SQ's attempt to reintroduce a passenger service into Spain, a significant hole in its European coverage.Help make this article a better one!

that's why i was a bit hesitant. ok i take back what i said about houston, but i would still consider moscow to be a glamourous destination. i mean there's a lot of history there, red square, the kremlin, the whole cold war hangover chic.Originally posted by huaiwei View PostSorry, but how would Moscow and Houston be considered "glamorous" destinations, when both are basically greyish industrial cities, especially the later? i would think that SQs codeshare agreements with its european partners would have covered barca in the past.
haha true though. houston glamourous? i must have been drunk.

Actually, LHR-DME is (or at least was before the credit crunch - I don't know about now) probably one of BA's most profitable routes, e.g.Originally posted by mad max View Posti would still consider moscow to be a glamourous destination. i mean there's a lot of history there, red square, the kremlin, the whole cold war hangover chic.

60 pax in J each paying £1,600 for a roundtrip (about 3-4 hours flying time each way) - flights always jam packed.

Is it jam packed one-way or both ways? LHR-DME could just be fleeing Russian non-doms on a one-way ticket out...Originally posted by jhm View PostActually, LHR-DME is (or at least was before the credit crunch - I don't know about now) probably one of BA's most profitable routes, e.g.

Well actually it was (or is?) a major cash cow for BA. My friend was boasting that rich Russians will pay silly money just for the "privilege" of flying BA's product which if I'm not mistaken is somewhat like six abreast with the two middle seats blocked off. Superlative yields as JHM showed. Who needs 30" wide seats?Originally posted by milehighj View PostIs it jam packed one-way or both ways?
