  • Can I buy a seat in C and Y for myself for same flight?

I know this sounds bizzarre, but...........

    I've mentioned I have a Y class booking as an F redemption SIN-MLE-SIN (no C was available).
Is it possible for me to purchase a C class seat separately, and then check in for the same flight with tickets in both Y and C class - so that my return itinerary will not get screwed up (I know I MUST check in and fly with that Y ticket or the return SIN-SFO will get cancelled with my redemption).

Is it possible to check in with 2 seats on the same flight in different cabins, then would you hand your 2 boarding passes to the gate agent? Or is this disallowed?

    Help!

You mention you have a F redemption but no C was available when making the booking - so has a C seat now opened up? If so why not change your original ticket to be in C instead of Y?

There is still no availability in C with the F redemption booking.
I would like to pay cash for a seat in C outright (as a separate ticket completely), but then I would have to check in for BOTH tickets. If I don't check in and board with the Y seat I'll lose the remainder of my flight home (the redemption ticket).

        There are problems in scenarios:
        • If you buy revenue C, SQ reservation could detect a double booking for the same flight. Thus a cancellation may occur.
        • It would be bizarre if an airline allows pax to have Y BP as well as C pax with only one actual pax.
        • And, yes, you have to use the flight coupons in order. Thus, your return might get canceled all.

Some suggestions that you might consider:
        • I remember about your wife confirmed in C, but you are in Y. Well, you can accept the separation in class of service for 4 hours flight.
        • I think I recall you posted as using DL SkyMiles. Perhaps, the award seat for SIN-MLE would be opened near the departure date? Within a week prior to?
        • Since you are willing to pay for SIN-MLE in C, to be safe, why not just reissue your ticket as SFO-SIN//MLE-SIN-SFO (I assume it's ex-SFO from your post regarding caviar). But I am not so sure about DL SkyMiles poicy in reissuing the tix, whether you can just drop the SIN-MLE segment from the itinerary or has to have the availability for SFO-SIN (which will be nearly impossible for the 77W)

          It's a definite cancellation.

Dispatch is going to the have a headache. 1) The headcount will be wrong, hence POB reported when requesting clearance will also be wrong.

I think there may be legal implications too, not sure.

Maybe not related, but cellists traveling with their instrument have to purchase two tickets. How do they do it? Is the instrument under a different name? Maybe you could book the second ticket under your middle name / last name rather than first / last?

AFAIK,the instrument could be identified as non-human. But for having one Y seat (First/Last Name), and buying one C seat (Middle/Last Name), it will end up with ONE less human counts. And you know the drill...

But back to the OP, if I were him, I would not buy a C tix for SIN-MLE. Just checked on the web, it's SGD 2,274. I would rather take the Y seat (part of the award, and hoping for an opening in C award near to the departure date, which DL can rebook it for him). Separated for 4 hours from the wife during the flight, but the money saved can be used together for something together in MLE.

If I am not mistaken, the OP will arrive in SIN on SQ 1, which is around noon, and the flight to MLE departs around 2045. Could use the fund to stay at the Crown Plaza and have nice lunch and dinner in the city. Thus, when taking the flight in Y, no need to think about the meal service. And yes, buy one bottle of Dom and one bottle of Krug for the relaxing time spending in MLE.

But how do they buy the second ticket? Under the name: Mr Good Cello ? Or Master Cello Stradivarius ? You have to put a name in the booking. Do they get miles ?

Normally, a cello traveling onboard would be ticketed separately as Instrument/Cello, or simply "CBBG," meaning cabin baggage, or perhaps Cbbg Lastname, depending on the airline.

Thanks for all the responses and help.
It sounds like a double booking is a very bad idea, as the revenue seat may get cancelled!
Delta says that they cannot do SFO-SIN, then MLE-SIN-SFO. It has to be SFO-SIN-MLE-SIN-SFO (you cannot skip a segment).
Their system is very strange. They say they run a "risk of losing the F seats" if they try to re-book with the MLE segments in C, "due to the computer system", "we have to rebook the entire ticket to do this".
The charge for fuel costs is $650 US and will be added if any changes are made to the ticket (it was not originally added, but they had a policy change).
My wife has a violin but I don't think they would allow that to count as a "human", would they? I could just see us on the flight asking if the "violin" could fly in Y with me next to her in C! A cello makes more sense size-wise.
We have a 3 day SIN layover. I was only going to try this plan on the return MLE-SIN, as the cost was much cheaper one way (about $691 US).
I am going to just stick with things the way they are and we are going to switch seats midway through the flights, per my wife!
Thanks for the help - it is very much appreciated!

flyingfox: Good luck with switching a cello with a violin. You can, however, probably buy a cheap cello and it'll be cheaper.

I never imagined I would ever in my life suggest buying a cello for any reason.

SQ LPP: Well in that case, they would have to finish off the Dom and the Krug (perhaps onboard) before MLE immigration as everything gets scanned to ensure no foreign alcohol is carried, even for 'celebratory' reasons into the Republic of Maldives.

At least the flight would be heaps of fun!

Now here's a thought - I've been asked to turn on laptops and cellphones at security just to prove they really work.

I can imagine now being asked to string together (no pun intended) a couple of notes, maybe part of a symphony, just to make sure the cello's not concealing anything of a more sinister nature.

Sorry for being unknowledgeable regarding alcohol rule for the Maldives. Never been to MLE, and have not been interested to go there. Just assuming one can import a bottle. Lucky for those who can fly there as well as stay in this expensive destination.

I may be wrong, but this might be what the DL agent was trying to say. If you want to rebook, everything must be available. Thus SFO-SIN in F as well, as SIN-MLE. Perhaps what the agent saw in the computer there was no F award anymore for SFO-SIN for the day tou plan to travel. Thus if the agent try to rebook it, you might loose your confirmed F seat that you have right now.
I think it's a wise decision for you to stick with what you have. The $650 additional fuel charge is a killer... Again, even though you will be in Y for 4 hours, it would feel like a breeze after you are in F for almost 24 hours from SFO. Again, a good meals in Singapore would make up for the inconvenience being in Y from SIN to MLE.

Immigration will "confiscate" your alcohol and hold it for you until you leave and they will return it to you at the airport. However, alcohol is freely available in all the resorts. Also not all the resorts are exorbitantly priced.
