In case many of you don't know, next month in mid October I am travelling to India (Kolkata for Durga puja for the first 5 days, then Trivandrum and going from BLR because after reading about Scoot, I wanted to avoid them) and mainly taking SQ because of the Iran war (My parents went this past February on EK and my mom got stuck in DXB for nearly a week after her flight turned back and my dad came back 48 hours later from his original departure). I was not really happy with SQ the last time I flew in May especially SQ31/32 in terms of flight service and expecting the most basic level of respect from the crew.
But I will now jump straight to the point -
We booked our tickets back in March because obviously the Iran war is what is triggering fuel prices to spike up and we booked pretty much many 2026 trip tickets in that time.
During the booking, I noticed SQ516 from SIN to CCU uses an Airbus A350-900 XWB regional variant SH* series some days of the week and other days of the week, they use the Boeing 737 MAX 8. That is fine on paper.
It looks like since July, SQ has completely got rid of the Airbus A350-900 XWB regional on this route and it is a Boeing 737 MAX 8 now operating daily even up to today and even for Navartri.
Usually for Navatri, SQ increases the frequency of widebody aircraft to Kolkata which even includes Fridays (my flight is on a Friday evening after landing at Singapore from San Francisco on SQ31). I'm surprised they decided to scale it down to a 737 MAX 8.
I read the MAX 8 is pretty good in terms of comfort and the IFE, but why would all of a sudden they quietly axe out the A350-900 XWB regional from SQ516/517 completely?
I have not seen any announcements from aeroroutes.net or anywhere for that matter. Am I missing something?
Let me know.
Thanks!
