The story of the $23,000 Suites

Been waiting for this story to hit here since Tuesday. It has gained quite a bit of attention and publicity on social media platforms, and across major websites.

With the disinterest, I wonder what does it tell us about sqtalkers as a demographics?

We don't find it interesting.
We find it old news to be in the Suites
We no longer believe that is is the class beyond whatever .....

Whereas the general population is sensationalised by this guy's experience, green with envy. And there are many pages of discussion on FT whose demographics are probably mostly non SQ-flyer North Americans who have no access to Suites using miles.

Because Suites has been around for almost 7 years now and there have been countless trip reports since 2007. To aviation geeks, this is just another. The difference is that his went viral (for reasons unknown) and the greater public got wind of it.

When I first read it I thought it was odd that he sort of came out of nowhere with a pretty good trip report in terms of text and pictures. Then it turned out he was plagiarizing. I'm guessing, since he had the ultimate airline experience, he wanted it to be made known to the world, and lacking the ingenuity for a captivating trip report, he stole words from seasoned travel bloggers.

He should have just hired a ghost writer to describe the whole experience for him.

All of the above and a few others I imagine. This being a board primarily about SQ, somebody flying in Suites is not really headline news on here and there must be a dozen TR's of trips in Suites anyway.

Bingo. SQ suites for some here (I shan't mention their names) is a bi-weekly commute, not a once in a lifetime treat.

This thing was news 7 years ago, and no different to me writing a review about my new iphone 3GS.

I was not surprised at the buzz around the Etihad new Residence (or whatever the name is) with its pricetag of USD20K one way to LHR... but in this case I am... as other mentioned before, this is an established product...
Maybe what got people excited is the (inaccurate) rate of USD23K ?

Probably one of the plagiarism hints... SQ26 is a midnight flight but the TPR picture seems to be taken during daytime...

As far as the lack of reaction on this board, this is SQ's world, so this is not really surprising after all...

Another oddity... the guy writes "I paid a visit to the rest room to change into the pyjamas provided"... but he does not seem to be wearing the pyjama after that...

Yes, I guess in SQ land, R class TR doesn't stir anything anymore. Relatively "old" product. I guess a lot of people got wow-ed because they didn't know that such a product existed and people who would pay for R class.

I saw this pop up on my Facebook feed and didn't think it will go viral. I was wrong. I saw a lot of "Woah!!!"... But I guess folks on this board have been there done that.

The thing that was wrong (and a big no no) was the copy and paste manner of the TR. So slipshod. So fake. Definately deserves the "flame" he is getting now. But hey! Some infamy is better than no fame. He just got catapulted into superstardom in the blogosphere.

EY Residence will be interesting though since it is a new product.

When SQ introduced Suites, you had to pay for R and there was absolutely no other way to fly Suites. Still, my first flight on Suites was 12/12. I walked around the cabin and was wondering what made every single pax cough up so many bucks.

Nowadays you can fly in R, F, P and even A and use saver awards.

SO another Suites report from some guy - a big yawn around here. The only thing is again that apparently there were only 3 out of 12 seats taken which means SQ should consider releasing a few more Suites (savers) over time and not just the 1 or maybe 2 that seems normal these days.

Sunset is 7:15pm in Singapore, so the guy would have spent more than 4hrs30 in TPR waiting for his flight, I'd rather go to Harrys Bar in T1
