Singapore A380 to Brasil 2014?

I've booked BCN-GRU-BCN for next june Fifa World Cup. I can't wait to be in Brasil for World Cup and for fly with Singapore for me the world best airline.

Is there any chances about possible upgrade this flight to A380 due to massive request for World Cup?

When i choose my seat on flight there were only 15 empty seats, six months before flight, so probably in a few days will be sold out. I believe all flight during World Cup period are in similar situation.

I think an upgrade to A380 it's a smart choice at least for World Cup period.

Yup. Empty seats seen online are not indicative of fullness.
They indicate only empty seats available for selection for online bookings which have its own quota.

As a gauge, when I booked my flight in SQ836 to PVG, the upper deck o the A380 was almost full, with only around 10 empty seats. But today when I did online check-in, the upper deck was half empty, with many of the seats previously not available for selection now available.

They've wanted to for a long time, just waiting for the Chinese authorities to give the go ahead, which it sounds like may be imminent.

from what I know, about 50% of seats can be blocked for airport counter allocation

Yup, they block out a lot of seats.
On both flights to KIX in Oct/Nov last year, I thought I was going to on pretty full flights both ways and in both instances, it ended up being than 40% full in YCL.

This especially when you see whole blocks of seats unavailable and they are somewhere in the row 38-60 area....

The latest practice seems to be completely blocking out the left side of the rear cabin of each jet. I sometimes wonder if this is to retain the ability to offer tour companies or large groups a contiguous section of seats or so that any required equipment swap is made easier to perform.

This usually changes, however, as soon as the flight opens up for online check-in. Usually large parts of the plane previously "occupied" become unoccupied. It amazes me how many people still don't use online check-in and prefer to queue for a half hour or more. (This is certainly the case for flights ex-MEL where I often bypass a hundred people easily with my home-printed boarding passes!)

It seems from my experience that the upper Y cabin of an A380 is never available for preselection at the time of booking. Can any J travellers provide information as to whether the rear rows of flights normally operated exclusively by SKL-SKT are available for early selection?
