On June 21st the flight switches back to the scheduled 6x weekly route of Santiago-Auckland-Sydney and on-ward connections to Asia via OneWorld (Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul/Incheon, Shanghai, Bangkok, etc.) are being re-booked for passengers.
The temporary route lifted off yesterday from Santiago, had a fuel stop in the middle of the Pacific in Papeete (French Polynesia) and now LAN's A343X is on it's way to Australia soon landing in Sydney (+2 in Australia/Asia now.)
Qantas's flight from Sydney to Buenos Aires just lifted off.
Due to the ash cloud of flying WAY NORTH over the SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN and BURNING MORE FUEL the return flight from Buenos Aires to Sydney will be making a similar fuel stop in Papeete French Polynesia pacific island.
Not a bad way to chill in a holiday island in the middle of the Pacific while your 744 or 343X re-fuels! ;-)
And in other news SQ (Singapore Airlines) just boosted capacity from AKL (Auckland) to SIN (Singapore) to a 77W (777-300ER). Interesting, maybe this is a sign of on-ward connections to Singapore via Auckland and the Pacific crossing from Latin America!?
Is LA/JJ going to be in OneWorld or Star Alliance?
If it's Star Alliance the Auckland stop allows DIRECT ONE-STOP connections to Asia in Auckland (and NZ allows Latin America passengers in transit to STAY AIRSIDE with-in the transit area WITHOUT a VISA!).

).... "regularly" is probably closer: roughly monthly return flights. Anyway, I can certainly say that since SQ285 switched to the 773, loads have been noticeably higher in J. Can't comment on Y since my employer's travel policy forbids
me to travel there.
