    Maldives but closer..

    We are looking to go on a weeks holiday to somewhere splurge a little in say April, mainly for Mrs 225 so she can relax after looking after mini 225 so much.
    I looked at the Maldives but its pretty pricey, it does look amazing but I was thinking there must be equally nice places a bit closer to Singapore? Thailand, Indonesia etc?

    Can anyone recommend any where that's not the usual, phuket, Bali and so on?

      Plenty more in the region, but without good/direct air connections...

        We have been to KK but not a beach resort, OZ is a bit too far as may as well go to the Maldives, I was thinking somewhere a bit more secluded, really nice beach bungalow or room that is not a massive chain hotel.

          Try Rayong, a little further than Pattaya - there are a variety of islands off the beaten path there, but you'd have to fly into BKK + drive 2 hrs...

            I know you said no Phuket or Bali but I personally never tire of them.

            One criteria I had when I was younger was:
            • morning departure from SIN
            • to be by the pool/beach of my holiday destination by lunchtime!


            Minimum travel time
            Minimal time to recover from journey
            Maximum pool/beach time

            By this criteria Maldives never fitted my plans.
            An awkward arrival time in the middle of the night
            Airport transfer to hotel
            Late check out to catch flight in the middle of the night

            I suppose depends also on length of stay. My breaks tended to be 3-4 days

              How 'bout Redang or Tioman in Malaysia? A short direct hop on Berjaya Air direct from SIN I believe. For a Singaporean it's rather inexpensive

                Or perhaps the good ol' Langkawi? Flights shouldn't be a problem from SIN.

                In the recent TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice 2011 Hotel award, a hotel in Langkawi emerged as no. 12 in its overall Top 25 Worldwide list!

                I think the hotel, Casa del Mar, fits your requirement - a bit more secluded, really nice beach bungalow or room that is not a massive chain hotel.
