Here's a rather unique TR written by someone who's part of the media contingent covering the Beijing Olympics:

      Phelps did come to Singapore:

As the superstar walked an audience of selected media through his gold-paved journey yesterday, he brought up pictures of his time in Singapore, where the American swimming team were training prior to their arrival in Beijing.

There were shots of his trip to the Night Safari, “where we got to see lions and tigers”, he said.

There were pictures of Phelps in his suite on board the Singapore Airlines A380 bound for Beijing, “with the coolest facilities and that giant bed, man”, he gushed

What a picture- or (video-)perfect ending to a competition: Matthew Mitcham's near-perfect, record-scoring, highest-degree-of-difficulty final dive to grab the gold on the men's 10-meter platform. The emotions that came afterwards was nice crema on the espresso. Well-deserved win to an obviously nice guy.

Now gotta go rib my Sydneysider friend who I suspect became a blubbering fan.

After reading his life story, everything he'd been through, the amazing and inspiring comeback and then some, I was hoping that he'd be the Australian flagbearer at the Closing (not to mention camera perfect looks too ).

Then again the Closing flagbearer role has always gone to the best performing athlete and Stephanie Rice probably deserves the honour as much for her record breaking efforts.
