    Hi folks,

I am planning a visit to USA next year for holiday (2 weeks).
Some of the places I want to check out would be:

    1 San Francisco
    2 Lake Tahoe
    3 Yosemite national park
    4 Las Vegas
    5 Yellowstone

The first four seems quite manageable. Rent a car from SFO and drive to (2)-(3)-(4) in that order..although the drive from (4) back to (1) is a kinda long.

For Yellowstone, it seems quite inconvenient to get there. Fly from either SFO or Vegas to Salt Lake City, then change planes to Cody (a airport 100 miles away from yellowstone I think). Total journey time for each way is 5-7 hours. Anybody has any better ideas ? Thanks

hi acey, i would do a one-way delta flight from sfo to cody first, connecting in SLC. i would then book a one-way on delta back to sacramento, again connecting in SLC. this is much more preferable to sfo, because it is 1.5 hours closer to tahoe, and if you rent a car, the airport taxes at sacramento airport are less than half those at sfo, along with much cheaper rental rates. from sac, you can drive to tahoe, on to yellowstone and complete your journeys in vegas. from vegas, book the amazing virgin america, which offers one-ways to sfo for as little as $44. hope this helps!

      Thanks for travel tip.
I guess I can rent a car in SAC and drop it off in Vegas ?
Not tried a one-way drop off before - will this increase the rental cost substantially ? But I guess the time savings is substantial !

Yellowstone National Park is nothing special anymore. After the government cut funding the park, its gotten pretty dirty. I've been there twice for camping, great for camping but you will be dissappointed to see Old Faithful, well atleast I was. The rest of the park is sulfur pits and natural hot springs if you are into that kind of things. There's some wild life and lots of burnt trees from the big forest fire a couple years ago.

hi acey, yes you can rent a car in sac and drop off in vegas. just make sure you specify this when you are making the reservation. there is usually a drop-off fee of anywhere from $10-75. this is a whole lot cheaper than the minimum 2.5 tanks of gas you will burn thru driving back to san francisco from vegas, as well as the extra day of rental charges you will incur by driving back.

Acey you are in the region of Anaheim, I suggest Disneyland and Universal Studios if you haven't been there yet.

The one-way rental fees (including drop charges) will vary depending on the rental car company, so be sure to shop it around. The last two times I had a one-way rental (two different companies), the charge was the usual daily charge plus $0.30 per mile driven, but no additional/separate one-way drop fee.

                  Hi Impresta,
My wife and I went to Disneyland and Universal Studios in 2003.
Any major changes since then that would warrant a second visit ?
