It depends on the location of the destination.

I can slum it 15 hrs in Y. He he he. Then with hotel status, I can get a room upgrade...heh heh heh.

Oh for the sake of comparison - let's just say "the works" - for both your F longhaul should you choose it, and the presidential suite.

Well I guess the "works" spread over a few days works best for me!

I would quite happily take both options but if I had to choose for me it would be option 1. I never feel I really make the most of luxury hotels whereas travelling in F I always make sure I make the most of it.

Of course if there is a complimentary mini-bar then that might change my answer.

Definitely 2nd option for me. As bad as Y is, it's still more bearable than having to bunk in backpacker type of accommodation. Not to mention SQ Y is pretty good in terms of catering and entertainment options.

My choice very much depends on the type of destination.

If it's a city like Paris or NYC where I'd be using the room only to sleep, I'd happily take option #1 and the F suite, thank you.

However, if my destination is a resort, say Mauritius, where much time is spent in the hotel & room itself, then I guess I'd go for option #2.

I'm not a very "room-caring" person as long as the room is clean, climatized and has a 1.80*80cm^2 bed.

Probably #2.

I never had the opportunity to fly F (yet) so I'd say I'm not spoiled in terms of saying that Y is crap. It simply isn't if you compare SQ Y to European LCC's. LCC's are pure crap but you get what you pay for and paying Y on SQ sounds reasonable to me as it has always (100+ flights) been a great pleasure flying with them.

So I'd choose the 5 star hotel and a Y fare on SQ over flying F and living in a backpacker hostel.
