Laksa! Where lah?

Hi All,

I know i'm starting a bit early as my trip isn't for another 11 weeks! But - in 11 weeks i'll be in Singapore for 2.5 days on the way to London and I can't wait. So my question is - where can I get the best Laksa? I've got a lot of eating to fit into a short period of time so i'd love to hear your recommendations!

Last time we had satay at Lau Par Sat (apologies if I spelled that wrong ) which I thought was fantastic although I've been told that its a bit more 'touristy' - although that's what I'll be!

The only other foodie thing on the agenda at the moment is taking my gf to afternoon tea at the Fullerton ..... did it last time too and just loved it!!

As a Singaporean, I would say that the laksa in Katong are overhyped.... there are many excellent laksa outside the Katong area..... one is at Tampines round market, and btw only selling to breakfast/early lunch crowd... then there is one at Blk 128 in Bedok North... and if you like laksa mai hum, then you should try the one at Tg Pager Complex, just outside the container terminal.... that is cheap and good, only $2.00...... the other laksa I like is ate with chicken cooked in style of chicken rice.... that will be up in Tg Pager Food Center........

Katong Laksa, thumbs down and no easy parking anywhere, only will go if I really have to be in the area, even so, I would probably eat something else....

Now then you ask!!!!... and since you are at this area, should have gave me a call, my office looks down to the terminal...

Tg Pager Complex also have the best bah chor mee, Malay food (sabar menanti), I love the bee hoon soto from them... then also got the best prawn noodle, must eat with everything in it, i.e with all the pig inards all cook into the noodle.... and of course you also have Ah Hwa Bak Koot Teh there...

There's a popular one on Townshend Rd off Jln Besar. It's in a hdb coffee shop, and the stall is called Sungei Road Laksa. Very cheap. There's usually a queue but it moves quite quickly. I normally order 2 bowls at a go.

Details of this stall and other good food can be found at soshiok.com. Now that we are on this subject I can't wait to get a bowl the moment I step off sq21 on Sunday.

Yes, you are right. If you want Laksa, you should skip those in Katong one.
Dont forget the one at Jalan Besar.

I also read an article on the weekend about an old lady who runs a hawker stall in TG Pager and has been for something like 60 years, and even though she's in her 80's she still gets up at 4.30am to start making the soup ... I thought I would try that. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Yo, is the chopstick thing new? I don't remember this being the practice.
