A disheartening development. Wasn't expecting for SIA's Canadian situation to become worse. But it did and this really hurts as it will translate to zero operation for the carrier's presence in the country.
Could be their frustration in repeatedly not being allowed to operate YVR-ICN vv daily that they've just decided to pull the plug altogether. Who knows! Despite tough economic times, this is one route I did not believe that they would withdraw. Yikes!

It's very difficult to get good yields without daily service. Business travelers want at least daily service.
I wonder whether or not the economics of the A330 could have made this route work. Compared with the 777-200ER, the A330-300 offers higher RASM and lower CASM. The route is within the payload/range performance limits of the newest A330-300s.

That comes as very sad news to me but I can understand it and I will miss this service very much.
There is still the possiblity of flying via SFO or LAX but it would make for a very long trip.
Looks like it's time to look for alternatives.

They have also removed Vancouver as one of the possible cities to do a 50%-off KF redemption. (it used to be listed under April)

What a shame. While I only used the route a couple of times myself, some of the best SQ staff I have come across anywhere in the world are in Vancouver.
I hope the service gets reinstated at some point, the sooner the better. The use of the word indefinitely doesn't sound good though.
I also fear this may not be the last route to go....

SQ have been in fact mulling over this issue of flying to vancouver in fact since end 2007 due in part to average low yields - perhaps it would have best if SQ could have operated via HK instead of Seoul.
But now with the the cut-backs in service, several 777s have been sitting on the ground since last month - as one can usually see that there are usually 3 777s at the remote bays parked outside CIAS catering and another 2 at the further remote bays nearest to the SQ hangers.

i won't be surprised if IAH via DME gets pulled. I don't know much about how it is on the route itself, but I know the economy in Moscow is comatose at the moment. My firm has pulled all our finance partners out of moscow and are mulling closing our practice there altogether.
It's a great time to be a student.

The sad thing is that SQ just thinks that everyone will be funnelled through the US. And not many people can just go through the US. Many people require visas especially from the Indian subcontinent, and there are those (like me) who would prefer to have hell freeze over before I would transit in the USA.
ICN-YVR-ICN traffic is always chock block full despite it not being a daily flight. Pity that the Korean govt does not see fit to grant SQ that right. On the other hand SQ can offer nonstop services from SIN but it chooses not to.
SQ says that it will still offer codeshare services. Yeah, right. None of their 'special' fares from asia offer to be sold on codeshared services. Besides why cheat travellers on the pretext that you have a SQ ticket but you will end up getting served by AC?
It is very hard for an airline to suspend service and then start it off again. I think this is going to be permenant.
