The Savage25 effect in a nutshell: Any FFP I get elite status on will get devalued right away

Lets see what I can remember:

1. Got LH SEN in 2004: LH soon announced devaluation of the 25% bonus miles (ie. SQ F went from 375% to 300%, etc), removal of the 160K mileage overdraft.

2. Got SQ PPS in 2005: You all know what happened last year.

3. Got UA 1P in 2005: Starnet issues and no more manual longsell on *A awards.

4. Got AA Plat in 2007: Loss of 100% elite bonus on BA flights starting 2008. Award hold time reduced from 14 days to 5 days.

5. Got NW Platinum Elite in 2007: DL decides to take over NW and will most likely kill off WorldPerks in Feb 2009.

6. Got BD Gold in 2007: LH decides to exercise its option and will most likely kill Diamond Club soon.

So far, the effect does not seem to have spread to hotel and rental car programs....

P.S. I have now joined BA Exec Club and will be making Silver soon. Watch out for devaluations there too.

Well, apart from the very recent doubling of the SPG to KF miles ratio...

Or the recent loss of longhaul tier points on the BA fifth freedom routes, e.g. BAH-DOH. Plus a rumour or two on TOF of other changes in the works...

I don't do all that badly with stocks - made a 59% total return on my portfolio in the 2 years I was in b-school (so glad I took a student loan at 8% and did not pay cash upfront...)

Okay so I just qualified again for SEN(hood) till Feb 2011 and was getting ready to pile my upcoming longhaul SQ flights into my brand spanking new BD account to reap the rewards of my painfull Y class flying by getting some of those lovely cash & miles awards later on that MAN Flyer is always raving about and now it will likely be gone soon. Darn - guess I'm too late to game then. Well at least I got free 4.5K miles for signing up which eventually (worst case scenario) should find their way into my LH M&L account. Which means piling miles into BD will still be okay as long as earnings ratios for the flights would be the same between BD and LH as in a worst case they will introduce M&L for BD and merge accounts like in the case of LX. Hmm then I should credit those intra-European B class flights on LH metal to LH for the sake of 150% miles and exec bonus. Okay I think I got it worked out.

On a side note, I can see mass redemptions hitting BD in the next weeks & months to come by all the people who very well know that they CAN trust LH ... to devalue the benefits of BD DC

Okay then I will stay away from FB and BA to avoid the Savage25 effect. Sky Team doesn't do much for me anyway with base in SIN. KE looks interesting on some routes but I guess my motivation here is more driven by their TV commercials with those really cute FA's
