  • My Pride My Thai! (aka Kyo+'s Unofficial Inaugural TG A380-800 BKK-BKK!)

    My Pride My Thai!

Buckle those seatbelts, because Kyo+ is about to bring you on an ultra-exclusive, never seen before, never-to-be-repeated super sneak preview that TG hosted in BKK a short moment ago.

This event was only available to ultra-special TG*V+s (VIP+), not even TG*Ps were invited, just ask kapitan... and naturally, yours truly was invited.

TG knew I'd flown my share of EK, SQ and LH 388s, and were getting annoyed they'd had to wait for those pesky Europeans to deliver their shiny new toy 40 years behind every other carrier for Kyo+ to review. Unfortunately due to these massive delays, and subsequent (read: normal) TG-ing, they'd swapped me left, right, centre, front AND back and were scheduled for their inaugural 388 flight on the 6th of October.

But Kyo+ can't be kept waiting. Not for TG. Not for the 388. No siree.

So with a quick call (not) and a chance shopping trip with BD kindly obliging to provide me my last ever premium class J redemption on TG410, I blasted off on Friday the 28th of September to BKK for my date with destiny.

Enough smalltalk. Let the pictures do the talking.

    TG388
    First Class
Seat 1K from BKK to BKK (Bangkok to Bangkok)
    29 September 2012
    Plane: A380-800

The Big Bird - Who said she has to be in 3D?

The Smoothest Way To Fly - Don't you dare argue, TG said so, so it must be true

Gate SP2 - Siam Paragon, Level 2: As you can see, the turnout was nothing short of spectacular!

I had no luggage to check-in due to my hasty departure from SIN to make this flight.

Despite today's flight in F, I had no time for the F Lounge or Royal Spa today!

"Make way, plebs! I'm needed in Seat 1K!"

From the rear - I'm such a tease.

I instructed them to turn on their 'Do Not Disturb' sign and hopped on in.

Seat 1K! - My preferred seat when departing ex-BKK. You normally get a nice view of the airport on departure, today's view notwithstanding

Seat of Choice - TG had honoured my request for a bulkhead seat

    There's Solo in F and there's...

SOLO F - This one is better

I'm sorry, I was in such a rush I only had my iPhone with me. Unfortunately it took shots in different resolutions, no idea what's up with that.

A slightly more glamourous shot - But not much better

Camwhore Shot #1 - Because. Just because.

Storage bin on the left - Towards the aisle

Controls on the right - Towards the window

TG was in such a rush to prepare the plane for my arrival, that they didn't have time to...

...To Load The IFE - I'm gonna subtract one point, TG, sorry

and since I'm such a generous guy, I let these two coach flyers borrow my seat for a moment to luxuriate in what was until now SOLO F.

Just kidding, I let them borrow my SOLO J seat.

SOLO F? Some Day Kiddo - But not today!

I decided to walk around and explore the...

Multi Purpose Area - Eat your heart out SQ/EK/LH

Ok, so it was a bit boring. But the purple was nice.

Since TG knew I was onboard, they'd decided to also go all the way and introduce Solo J

SOLO J - This one is rarer

Who says it can't be done?

TG 388 J Seat - It's a lie-flat, as you can see (I took the trouble to spread it out just for you lot)

Tray Table - In stowaway mode. It has a tendency to slam into your belly, apparently

Well, we were getting ready to land, so TG gave me a little souvenir of my short flight. (I was too busy camwhoring to eat anything off the menu, besides I heard KFC was to be found nearby)

TG 388 Purple Bag - That's one big amenity bag, but erm... thanks!

They also passed along some special fares for you SQTalkers - let's call it...

TG's Rak Khun Tao Fah Special - No idea what that means but they love SQTalk enough to give it to you

There's only one catch, you gotta get yourself to BKK by tomorrow to book.

Oh, and since I was feeling generous - I asked them to release special fares systemwide.

    They obliged.

Systemwide Rak Khun Tao Fah Special - Still don't know what that means. But these are the cheapest ex-BKK fares just for you undeserving lot!

Please thank me with champagne the next time you see me.

Going Once - And that's it!

      No second chances.

There was no pilot announcement and we suddenly landed. The joyride was over. We were back where we started - in BKK. At Gate SP2.

Conclusion: Legroom in F was phenomenal. Legroom in J much less so. Similar to a 77W Diamond wedge. TG is the smoothest way to fly (coz TG said so). I experienced no turbulence whatsoever this round, so they're 1/1 in my book. The stewardesses were also most obliging with taking pictures of yours truly. Who can blame them. Kyo+ is sexah.

You heard it live and here on SQTalk first. ONE WHOLE WEEK before the inaugural. What more do you want?!

No toilet review because I made a secret agreement to let Dent@SUB do that. So please send brickbats and complaints to that rascal!

Kyo+ out. Can I join the First to Fly group yet?

Okay, how about Solo to Fly?

I'll finish my LH388 TR some other year...

And by the way, Photobucket resizing also sucks.

Next week: The TG388 SIN-BKK actual official inaugural. With food photos. And maybe toilet photos. (maybe. maybe not.)

No time for such piffly notions when the flight is only 4 minutes long (if even), Sir!

I saw the real thing yesterday, parked up near the hangars. She was inside when I just came past now. As I have said before, this aircraft is one ugly MF, but I have to say it looks pretty good in TG's livery.

                    Hi Kyo+,

Thanks for brightening up my day!

I can't believe how far down I read before I realised you weren't actually at suvarnabhumi

And I thought 1K was supposed to be windowless (well, 2 instead of the usual 3)? Looks like you've got an excellent view from that seat!

Really looking forward to some official reports next week.

I am waitlisted for TG600/601. Have been for a month. I realise there is no chance that it will ever clear because Thai certainly don't rak me thao fah! So the next best thing will be a Kyo+ TR

Thanks for the preview! The biz seat looks kinda tight.

Waiting for all the 前辈 to take the inaugural and help provide advice on which J seats are the better ones!

Definitely can't wait to see this in the flesh. My first glimpse will be at night, unfortunately

Very glad you enjoyed - I'm not sure if I'll even manage to sneak into the F cabin this weekend. Anyway the rest will have it well and truly covered as soon as the first flight is over, I'm sure!

It's very tight. No two ways about it. Some of us who are more generously proportioned might struggle, even in J.

Felt a bit like a coffin? (albeit one with a side parting, maybe we are expected to sleep sideways with belly jutting out into the aisle)

Thanks for the sneak peek, Kyo. I agree with MAN Flyer that the A380 looks good in TG livery. Can't wait to see your TG A380 TR during an actual flight.

But I hope to see more of your LH A380 report as well.

Thanks for the reminder, sumitsan. Don't miss the actual action in the other thread. I'll finish off that LH A380 report. It's almost a year now.
