  • TK plans to serve KUL, MNL, SGN

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I came across an article which caught my attention. At the last paragraph, it says Turkish plans to serve a few more SE Asian cities. Anyone else heard of this?

There was a rumour in A.Net a few months back that TK is planning IST-KUL-SYD vv. This has since dispersed off after TK made recent statements that their planned service to SYD will be via CGK instead.

Well, at least that leaves the KUL-SYD market open to other carriers

Not at all. KUL-SYD is the most protected route at the moment. See what happened to D7's application? KUL-SYD vv is exclusively belongs to MH LOL.

Didn't JQ have the rights at some stage? I remember OS also flying that route a while back

Yes, but those are before D7 appeared on the scene. Of which afterwards the route seems to become anti competitive.

They did indeed, but JQ pulled out shortly after they started in favor of more profitable routes. OS.... I remember those flights were full, dunno why they pulled out

One reason at least from my perspective: bloody awful timing. Remember waking up at 2 ish for a 05:30 departure or something like that.

Yeah I remember that flight, the only reason why I bothered to wake up so early was because OS was in the *A

And because you could upgrade OZ-Europe or vv. with 2 eVouchers only (from M&M) or M&M miles that usually would only get you Europe-SE Asia or SE Asia - Oz.

The only european carriers left that fly to Australia are British Airways and Virgin Atlantic these days, I think.

That's because the flight didn't change numbers:

was I think NG1 and NG2, then becoming OS3001/3002 all the way to VIE.

Erm, what's NG? Lauda? I've always thought it was OS1 from VIE to SYD via KUL then OS2 back. Of course, this was years ago and I'm not quite sure.

Btw, any news on Turkish serving KUL?

Yep - it was Lauda Air at one stage before they started using the Austrian Brand systemwide.

Actually it was OS who bought out NG.

NG was great. Really really great. Their food was really out of this world.. for an airline!
