That's not true. One can still cross the border.

HK borders with the mainland is still open and HKongers are still able to cross the border. However in view of some countries including Singapore have ban mainland chinese from coming to SIN, there's seems to be a "loophole" in this. This is because HK people just use their IC to cross over to China without using their passports. Hence HKongers who have been to China within 14 days can theoretically take a flight to SIN or US or Aust without the countries authorities knowing as their passports would not show that they have been to China.

Not to mention dual nationality Chinese citizens who will enter Singapore via their non-Chinese passport.

Was looking at the video of the "French" citizens evacuated from Wuhan landing in France, easily 95% are actually Chinese looking.

Generally not easy to maintain dual citizenship for PRC citizens as it's illegal per PRC law. Immigration officers will question the absence of passport stamps as a sign that a second passport is being used.

Many Australians look Chinese because their parents or grandparents are. They were born in Australia, however. This is the only country they are citizens of and we welcome them back home.

Yet there are still many, most of them just acquire citizenship but still remain in China. Most are holding passports of tax haven countries (remember Jho Low )

There are countries that no longer stamp on passports and they will know how to path their travel to explain. (e.g. going HK, Australia).

In fact there are a number of new Singaporeans that still exercise citizen-exclusive rights back in ex-home in China.

Will SQ modify SQ1/2 and make it direct flight from SIN-SFO?

There's no need to. SQ already have a non-stop direct SIN-SFO and back.

Perhaps it is a good chance to convert them to A380R for now.

No, unfortunately they’ll simply see less utilisation as those same aircraft are needed at night. The A380 flights to PVG, PEK and HKG operate during the day, slotting in between 2 night + 1 day flight pairs to Europe, so the demand for A380s is still the same at 0200 SIN time, just not at 1400.

Maybe SQ can upgauge one of its flight to Taipei to an A380 in the interim? Taipei flights have proved quite popular that they were hardly ever in Spontaneous Escape.

Haneda would be difficult for A380 operation.. Narita would be an option but double daily A380 flight, with one continuing to LAX in my opinion would be difficult. Unless SQ can shift some capacity to cater specifically during the short one month during Olympics.

Seoul would be another alternative for A380 since the morning SIN-ICN flight would hardly see any competition from other Korean carriers. Singapore and South Korea also have open skies now..

You're right: landed at Changi yesterday at 11:45 am -- lots of A380s sitting idle at T-3 gates.

Transited HKIA on SQ 1. Less than half the normal passenger count airside. About 80% wearing facemasks: SQ handed them out prior to arrival, but hardly necessary -- no new cases in Hong Kong, and there aren't any crowds anywhere in the airport, much less anyone sneezing or coughing. Medical staff with temperature pistols much in evidence. Concessions nearly empty; SilverKris Lounge had maybe 8 passengers total (business + first) at 7:45 am.

Tarmac also interesting: not a single Chinese airliner to be seen. Two SQ ships, one Thai, every other craft Cathay Pacific, Cathay Dragon, Hong Kong Airlines, or Hong Kong Express.

Pretty sure by today and next week onwards for a month or more, even flights to Taipei, Kprea, Narita and other Asia airports would have lessen pax, and even S Korea govt is considering asking or even stopping its citizens from travelling to mainly Asian countries.

                                Agree.
Came back last Friday from ICN, Biz was approx. 50% load. Iam a regular and have never seen that Friday flight that empty, commonly its 100% load and often I can only get seats in Z.
Spoke to the IFM about that and he confirmed that his prior flight the day before to ICN had 10pax in Biz.

The news that two South Koreans caught the virus when visiting Singapore, that wouldn't help to improve loads either.

I would guess that Changi aprons will get a bit crowded the next weeks.
