My room was fine but a little bit small. The buffet breakfast was really good with a wide choice of items. I didn't use any of the other amenities.

Overall if money is no object then the other options are probably better but my rate was half the Shangri La/Peninsula rates. To me it was much better value for money.

Makati Shang is ok if you want near shopping and restos (i.e. Ayala Center or Greenbelt Area). Manila Pen for the lobby LOL!

Does she enjoy casinos? you can try Resorts World (i.e. Marriott or Maxim's Hotel). It's just across NAIA Terminal 3. very convenient if you take SQ.

the newer ones are in the Integarted Casino Complex in Manila Bay. You can either be in City of Dreams (hotels: Nobu Hotel, Hyatt and Crown Towers) or the Solaire casino. very convenient from airport and near Mall of Asia (for shopping)

the best view for me though is Sofitel Manila (which is also near Manila Bay). gorgeous sunset and great buffet spread.

        enjoy Manila.

Softies is nice if you have a corner suite, where you have view of the pool and Manila Bay.....

But Sofitel is not walking distance to anywhere, you will have the risk of taking public taxis.......

            2-Cents, 1-Word.........."Unimpressed"

Check-in was sloooooooow, the room is "normal" and there is nothing nearby. The hotel is positioned above the Casino and "Mall" and I say "mall" loosely because there are very few shops and equally few restaurants.......though at least a choice of Korean, local, Western etc.

The Club Lounge had good food (fresh Carbonara, beef/chicken noodle, Chilli con Carne, fresh Pizza for Thursday, Dim Sum etc.) and a good choice of drinks. Service there was also good with friendly staff where we ended up chatting for ages but to be honest, if it wasn't for the fact we got a 50% discount on rates in a member's flash sale, it would be overpriced. There is no shuttle to/from the airport but there is to the other shopping centres such as the Mall of Asia etc.

I looked out my window after checking in at ~3pm and the sun was already off the pool........so it looked cold already.

My TV automatically rebooted itself ~30min after I first turned it on, though it was the only time....... I really have no idea WTF was going on. I stayed at Hotel Jen on Sunday & Monday night at around about the same price and, again, being honest, I felt it was better value......though noisier next to Roxas Blvd.

Despite being close to the airport, Hyatt is very quiet. A new Grand Hyatt is due to open near the Fort next year and on the basis of today, should be better than where I am writing from right now.

            My 2-Cents..........unimpressed.

Thanks for sharing! I finally decided to book with Shang-ri la Makati! All sorted so we shall see how it turns out at end of this month.

Hi! Just got back from my holidays in Manila - So as i mentioned we eventually stayed in Shangri-La Makati. Definitely the right choice of staying at the hotel. Location wise is very good close to every corner of the shopping districts in Makati. We were given a corner room for the stay plus, I manage to get a good deal of getting unlimited laundry service, free landline phone call, breakfast buffet, van transfer between airport and hotel + additional guest to use all the amenities mentioned. Service from the hotel was excellent, I have to say I was quite impressed that they surprised well with my mum a special chocolate mousse cake. I initially thought, they would just put it in our bedroom but intact, they were 3 hotel staffs (guest front office, concierge, door patron) sang her a happy birthday at the corridor. Definitely, no regards of staying at this hotel but of course, it definitely comes with a price.

                Enjoy the photos below:

Glad to hear you guys had a wonderful time!

Just for the benefit of those planning to stay in Manila in the near future:

                    Makati area:
                    1. Fairmont Makati / Raffles Makati - the best out there, if you want top notch service, lounge and rooms.
                    2. Holiday Inn Makati - another favorite which is relatively cheaper and has direct access to Glorietta mall
                    3. Shangrila Makati - still one of the best, but on the more expensive side
                    4. Discovery Primea - newly opened hotel, have not stayed in yet but reviews really llok good

                    Ortigas area:
                    1. Marco Polo Ortigas - great service, nice club lounge but a bit far off the malls and sightseeing
                    2. Edsa Shangrila - a bit tired, but still one of the best in the area, has direct access to Shangrila Mall and just beside SM Megamall
                    3. Oakwood Joy-Nostalg - relatively near 2 malls (The Podium and Robinsons Galleria), amazing rooms and best if long staying
                    4. Crowne Plaza - just within Robinsons Galleria mall, good lounge food

                    Alabang area:
                    1. Crimson Hotel - great value for money
                    2. Acacia Hotel - amazing service, they have butlers
                    3. Bellevue Hotel - be sure to book on the new wing as the old wing is a bit tired
                    4. Vivere Hotel - a bit tired but still a good value hotel, great service

Bonifacio Global City / The Fort area:
Not so much hotels yet but you should look forward to the upcoming ones:
                    1. Shangrila The Fort (end 2015)
                    2. Grand Hyatt (end 2015)

If you plan to stay soon, try:
                    1. Ascott BGC

Nah, I cannot recommend IC anymore... Apart from the rooms being outdated and tired, I don't think the service there is at par with the other hotels I recommended (within Makati). Though location is still good as it stands in between malls; however, one thing to note is the pricing of the rooms are still a bit high. You're better off in Holiday Inn as it is relatively a new hotel.

Completely disagree. The IC is on a different level, as one would expect. Yes it's an older hotel but there's no comparison with service, especially as Amb or RA. One our corporate rate there's a 50 peso difference between HI and IC - no brainer.

That's definitely a good corporate rate! I checked prices recently and there's still around Php2k difference on standard rooms.

Do you recommend getting an Amb membership?

For me, they just need a facelift, and they should be back on top. That's also one of the main reasons why they do not have consistently high ratings in TA. Overall IHG hotels are good, I guess we just got so much pampered in HI Makati due to numerous stays.

I usually stay at Pasay area.....Jen Hotel (formerly Traders)...no complains though with the Harrison Plaza behind the hotel and the Bay of Manila with nice cafes opposite the hotel
