With SIA's unlucky streak with JV's and the cesspool that is AI and Indian aviation market in general, this doesn't look like the best of commercial initiative, considering the state SIA is in currently and the commercial aviation market's outlook for the next few years.

SIA's head is barely above water and struggling to keep afloat and here they are attempting to someone rescue someone on the seabed with a ton of rocks attached ! Wonder what is Singapore Government's view on this considering they pumped billions into SIA to keep them afloat and SIA even retrenched 2400 staff.

Not sure AI would be high on my shopping list for airlines right now, unless they know something we don't!

AI have been put on sale for a couple of years and essentially no serious buyers as AI have alot of inside troubles.

Actually it is TATA group who want to buy. I don’t think SQ have agreed to anything.

And even if they buy, most likely will be $1 nominal sum? And maybe with some of the AI debts waive off by the govt ? Or else who will pay premium to buy a company with so much debts ?

Read lie TATA would want SQ to join in its purchase of AI. But TATA already have a JV with SQ in forming Vistara and have gone onto international routes and to US within sigh with its new 787s. Not sure why TATA would want to buy over AI and inherit the mess in AI.

Might be a government effort to float AI indirectly. Look at the DBS - LVB merger.

It's not good if this is so as Vistara have not made any profit since and its losses have in fact widen in 2019 before Covid. Don't think even the DBS-LVB merger is a good one at all and will drag DBS down.

One bullet, dodged. It would have been madness to get involved with AI in normal times, in a pandemic.....

It's best for SIA not to go into any JV with any other airlines and its history in JV have not been good as seen from its JV with British Virgin and even Virgin Australia. Even with TATA and Vistara, SIA have still not made any money from it so far and its future is still uncertain although it may have big plans. SIA should focus on its own strategy and strength.

SQ won’t be involved at all. They need to preserve cash.
If without the govt support , they ownself also can’t survive.
