its the 737-800 MAX and there are 8 of these new planes already built and not delivered and stored with Boeing. And one of these, 9V-MBN, was painted in Singapore Airlines colours from the outset.

As I recall, they have already selected the seats but were awaiting delivery.

Now they will have a chance to catch up.

Believed that SIA has identified the Thompson Aero Vantage seat in a forward-facing staggered arrangement for SilkAir’s Boeing 737 8 MAX aircraft fleet, but did not go ahead with it and hence even the newly built are not fitted with this seating. It will thus be costly for SIA to have to retrofit its newly built Max in the next couple of years.

Was it published that they are not going ahead with this?

SIA have identified and supposedly have the new seats put in mid 2020. However it seems they have not decided to go ahead and hence the newly built 737 Maxes are not fitted with it and the Silkair fleet of 8 Max still have also not been refurbished with the new Thompson seats.

SQ announced on feb 2019 that they have selected the new seats and will start refit the Maxes from May 2020. In March 2019, the Maxes were grounded.

With the Maxes grounded, SQ have announced in late 2019 that they will fix the new seats on 737-800 instead.

They did not want to fit these on the Maxes then when they have no idea of when the Maxes can fly. Further those Maxes that are newly built were built before the seats were selected. Hence , they should still have the old seats.

Not sure about this as then SIA should have started to refit the older Silkair 738s by now and some of the newly built maxes were only built in 2020 which was after SIA have selected the new seats but have never been fitted but still fitted with the old standard Silkair seats. SIA should have taken the downtime to refit the older 738s if they have ordered the seats just like they did with the refurbishment of the A380s during this downtime to save on time when these planes fly again and to keep more of the maintenance crew employed.
And now the FAA have given the green light for the Max to return to service and let's wait to see if SIA have any announcement of its Max planes and the new seats.

Mainly Miles have reported that SQMI have apparently brought back the first of SilkAir’s B737 Max-8 aircraft stored in ASP back into SIN, in preparation of reintroducing to the SQ flight with the Boeing 737 Max Series being given the green light to go back to the air.

Would be interesting to see if the lie-flat business class sets would make its appearance now on these birds...?

No new lie-flat seats and new economy seats with IFE have been fitted into any of the 738Max including those fresh from Boeing.

Any update on how many MI B738s will be moving to SIA in 2021?

                        I read 9 from an earlier post (9V-MGA to 9V-MGE and 9V-MGK to 9V-MGN), but now I am hearing it's 11?

                        Thanks

Thanks @FN-GM for that - and yes that is what I meant. I know that the *current* B737 Max’s don’t have lie-flat business class, but I’m just wondering would SQ now look at retrofitting them going forward now that the Max’s have clearance to fly again.

Dunno if it has been asked before: how will SQ crew the 737s? Will there be a complete complement of IFS, chief, lead and regular flight attendant?

SIA should be repainting these Silkair 738s Max to SIA colors.
