  • Penang Weekend Jaunt via TR and 3K

This will be just a short report on my last weekend trip to Penang, flying up on Scoot and returning on JetStar.

Checked in via the self-checkin kiosks and boarding pass receipt issued.

Had a delicious Korean rice cake in spicy soup meal at TGM Café, compliments of Priority Pass.

Departure Gate was changed to the far end at F59.

Small yellow birdie operating the short flight. To be frank, I would rather be flying on the SQ B787 taxiing past to the adjacent gate.

    Boarding in progress.

Boarding in progress. It was almost a totally full flight.

Very tight legroom, made worse at the last row where I was seated.

Ads for the Singapore Grand Prix on the headrest covers.

    Literature in the seat pocket.

Departed on schedule and a buy-on-board service was swiftly conducted.

Very soon, we descended and landed in Penang. A short and fuss-free flight on Scoot.

Stayed at St Giles Wembley at Georgetown for this short trip.

Headed to a supper place eatery just a short walk from the hotel, for a very delicious bowl of Penang Hokkien prawn noodles.

More Penang street food, including Char Kuay Teow, oyster omelette and chendol.

      View from my hotel room.

Hearty dimsum breakfast at Restaurant Zim Sum.

Exploring GeorgeTown, including visits to a couple of temples.

Khoo Kongxi and a tourist street.

Cooling down with a latte in a café.

Nasi lemak and an assortment of nonya kuehs for tea.

My all-time favourite duck kuay chup along Kimberley Street.

And more street eats, including Penang laksa, lor bak and more char kuay teow.

Back to Penang Airport to check in for the flight back on JetStar. There were no queues at the check-in counters even though the flight was very full. Coloured boarding passes were issued.

Scoot A320 at the gate preparing for the flight back to Singapore. However, the flight ended up departing 6hrs late due to a significant delay.

Visit to the Plaza Premium lounge, which was rather empty at this time.

Have to disagree with you on this. I think the one at KLIA2, near gate L8 is the lousiest PPL that I have visited so far. I recalled it as a tiny space with very limited F&B. The Penang one at least is more spacious and still have dining area and live kitchen which in my recollection are non existence at the KLIA2, near gate L8 one.

There was a selection of made-to-order dishes.

Feeling a bit down in the stomach, I only had fishball kuay teow soup and green bean dessert.

Off to the gate where boarding was about to commence.

                Boarding the aircraft

As this aircraft was fitted with the new slimline seats, legroom was actually quite reasonable.

View out the window. The earlier Scoot flight was very delayed.

And took off into the hazy skies.

Inflight service commenced swiftly, with pre-ordered snacks delivered and BOB service conducted.

Well above the haze which was engulfing the region.

We were very soon descending into the sunset and back into the haze.

Taxied to Terminal 1 and parked at the gate nearest to immigration.

                    Disembarked.

It was a short and comfortable ride on JetStar.

Thanks for reading this short review.
