In any event, I like to think of it as a state of mind regardless of what your passport or other legal status may indicate. For example, I have an aunt - born and bred in Malaysia - who went to university here in the UK and has lived here ever since. Married with two children who are now in the middle of university. My aunt has been here for 25+ years now but still chooses to hold a Malaysian passport despite the hassle this can cause when travelling compared to a British passport. Dual nationality is not allowed by Malaysia so she doesn't want to give up her Malaysian passport - I haven't asked why but as it's almost inconcievable now that she would choose to go back to Malaysia to live, I imagine it's for other reasons such as inheritance perhaps. Nevertheless, I'd find it hard to accept that any British person (whether British at birth or later) is any more British than she is even though she doesn't hold a British passport.
Anyway, enough of my OT reply to your OT question.
