  • Buying Miles vs Credit Card Points

Ok so hopefully someone can help.
Buying a car (Australia) and if I pay by Westpac AMEX I'll get 105,000 Altitude Points which is 52,500 KF Miles. The car dealer surcharge is $1,080
Or I could purchase miles if I want them later on?
Any ideas on what's my better option?
    Thanks

It's an elegant way to buy a number of miles in one go:

2.1 AUD-Cents per mile translates to 2.4 SGD-Cents which is a fair price.

Based in SIN, the cheapest bulk purchases came at 2 SGD-Cents.

If you top-up miles with SQ, you are looking at 4 USD-Cents or 5 SGD-Cents.

I managed to talk my way out of the surcharge when I purchased my Range Rover on my Westpac KF AMEX. Maybe put down a large deposit as they may neglect to charge it on a deposit. Paying the surcharge still works out cheaper than buying thru SPG which is about AUD$750 for 25,000 miles (purchases capped to 25k per year).

Did the same here in Singapore, used my ANZ Travel Visa to pay the 50% deposit. Got charged the surcharge for 40% of it (didn't charge me for initial 10%) and picked up a nice block of miles.
