Had a quick overnight stay here last week. Brief thoughts:

    * Went directly to the Grand Club to check-in, and was escorted to the room where the guest folio was already prepared and awaiting signature on the desk. Nice touch.

    * Although I arrived close to the end of Happy Hour, the friendly staff insisted I come back up for a drink and said not to worry even if I came up a bit later.

    * On the downside I didn't really find any of the food spread very appetising. Nor was there any hot food, other than eggs to order, available at breakfast the next day. So in short, I found the F&B offerings at the Grand Club to be well short of other counterparts which I frequent in the region (BKK, JKT, HKG)...

    * The 2-tier elevator system is already well discussed, and IMO an annoying waste of time.

    * In general I found the atmosphere/decor a little cold.

    * I didn't spend a lot of time there but will definitely return and see how things have progressed.

And they are at it again with this stuff....

The spread for drinks in the evening seemed pretty decent from what I can remember of it. I agree there is room for improvement at breakfast.

Greetings from the GH KUL Grand Club. Am pleased to report that the comments above are no longer valid. Great evening spread with their own smoked sea bass and decent sushi. Better now than GH JKT, still shy of GH HKG.

Breakfast at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

Earlier this week, I was in KL. I didn't stay at the Grand Hyatt, but I had meetings at an office nearby, and on my last day in KL, after checking out of my hotel, I decided to head to the Grand Hyatt KL for breakfast.

To me, this hotel is in an ideal location -- right next to KLCC and the Twin Towers.

The park outside KLCC (and just a short distance from the Grand Hyatt) is a great place to unwind or exercise.

The main breakfast buffet is one of the topmost floors, accessible by express lift from the lobby.

There are very nice views from the restaurant.

The next picture shows the view from the restaurant, looking down at the park. You can see the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on the left side of the picture.

The breakfast was an international spread of both Western and Malaysian/Asian dishes, but I felt it was a cut above your typical hotel breakfast, because there was a good effort made to showcase local fruit and specialities.

Among the Western selections, the egg-white frittata deserves special mention. Quite delicious. First dish on the left in the picture below...

Wide selection of fruit juices. I like the slices of fruit used to indicate the flavour. Better than using printed signs.

Nice selection of local fruit. Wonder what foreigners from outside Asia think of the nangka / jackfruit :-)

The Asian buffet station was quite impressive.

                Nasi lemak...

                A nice dim sum selection...

There was a noodle station, with a very friendly chef in charge.

Price of the buffet breakfast? RM78.90, which is about SGD 30. I felt this was good value, considering the selection of food available.

                  Thumbs up!

Stayed here again last week for the first time in a few visits and I have to say it is growing on me, even with the hated dual lift system. I still prefer the Westin when I have a choice, but it was full last week and I sometimes have to stay at KL Sentral anyway so it's not always an option.
