Reassurance needed from Miles and More experts!
    « Thread started on: Aug 13th, 2006, 7:20pm »
In an effort to keep costs down, I'm thinking of shifting my F ticket to Europe to a mixed class F and J ticket. Bummer about not being able to check out TG F, but TG C is still excellent and I still get to do the FCT.

This massively decreases my EQMs of course, and the buffer between making SEN and not making SEN becomes less cushy. This means I've got to be spot on in my mileage accrual calculation before ringing up to change my reservation.

So first, I need someone to confirm whether I've got my calculations right for the following itinerary (with Exec bonus applied):

    MEL-BKK TG C 4564 x 2 = 9128 EQMs
    BKK-FRA LH F 5581 x 3.25 = 18 138 EQMs
Then on to ORD and back on an AA award (don't ask)
    FRA-LHR LH C fixed miles 2000 x 1.25 = 2500 EQMs
    LHR-FRA LH C fixed miles 2000 x 1.25 = 2500 EQMs
    FRA-BKK LH F 5581 x 3.25 = 18 138 EQMs
    BKK-MEL TG C 4564 x 2 = 9128 EQMs

    Total: 59532 EQMs

Also, as the qualification period for SEN is 'within a calendar year' - it means a flight flown on the 31st of December 2006 will count, right?

And here's hoping the security situation in London will get better by December...

    TIA for your help!
I hope I won't need to post in TOF.

Why post in TOF? Your calculations are sound......

Guess you want to stop in BKK for whatsoever reason...

    Howabout.......
    MEL-SIN OS
    SIN-BKK LX

    and vice versa.

OS & LX will earn you the 25% bonus and a wee bit more miles for the distance.......

OK, I don't know how much more that may cost you.......

Oh.........just had a quick look at M&M site, BKK-FRA is 5,575 miles rather than 5,581 you have......

Nope not stopping over in BKK at all. Going straight on to Europe and the US.
    Thanks heaps anyway.
The itinerary I have is an LH ticket. I can choose to connect via SIN on SQ, or BKK on TG. Of course the latter is much cheaper.

I based it on the Great Circle Mapper which is usually a few miles plus minus here and there. It indicates MEL-SIN as 3748 when M+M usually credits me 3753.

Someone is flying LH F? Are you trying to get into FCT?
Well, if you go MEL-SIN-FRA, which SIN-FRA LH F, you will be at SKL F, and will have Connexion on board.

The operative phrase of the initial post - 'keep costs down.'
But yes I do want to experience the FCT and qualify for SEN. I've done the SKL F before, and alas SQ F is beyond my means. So I thought mixed class with TG C was a good compromise.

Is your FRA-LHR-FRA inclusive in your airfares? To add more miles you can do FRA-MUC-LHR for example...

Yeah I get a return flight to anywhere in Europe as part of the deal.
    Going via MUC sounds interesting...

I don't know whether you need visa to enter Schengen or not... FCT is in Schengen area. FRA-MUC is Schengen as well. I like MUC airport. Love the coffee shop/restaurant Dallmayr in the Schengen area.

Nope - thankfully I don't need visas for Schengen.

I guess if your tix allows many connection in Europe you should do short hop. MUC-AMS-FRA-LHR... short-haul n C but get at least 2500 miles right?

Same here, it's great airport MUC. Wish SQ flew from there with F so I can avoid FRA on award flights..

I'll actually be over the SEN threshold by about 3000 miles. It's just my last flight is on the 31st of December. So if something happens and I miss that flight, I'd be screwed big time.

Well it seems your TG 777-aircraft BKK-MEL leaves 00:15 or 08:10 on Dec 31st. So, it should be no problem for that last segment credit. But again, once you see the flight credited into your account, and no sign of SEN status, you should call M&M right away. Definitely Dec 31st flight should be counted for the whole 2006 qualification period.

OK, changed and ticketed my flights today. Shaved off more than a grand...phew
Now I just realised that this TG 772ER is a very new a/c, so info about where to sit is extremely scarce! :S
Since it's 2-2-2, I'm thinking like centre row to avoid the inflight gymnastics associated with a combination of answering nature's call and reclined flat seats...maybe in the middle of the cabin, like 3rd row from the front, to avoid babies at the bulkhead.
    Comments, anyone?

Going off SQ's 772ER's then it's bulkhead window all day and every day for me, 11A/11K. No idea how TG are numbering their a/c but I would go for one without hesitation.

It gives you a window and aisle access without gymnastics

Thanks mate. I'm currently booked on 11A.

You may wanna reference this as TG's bulkhead seat, though its on the 744.

Oh, hott! The bulkhead is definitely the way to go then.
I spoke to a TG agent on the phone today about the new planes. He was very enthusiastic and even went as far as to say 'we're going to be like Air NZ with these new flat seats.' If I wasn't an informed consumer I'd be mightily pissed when I step onboard and discover the difference between fully flat beds and angled flat beds. :S

Nice find. The SKL ICN looks very nice. I've never been to ICN before; the SKL seems to be the shared *A lounge there?

I was contrasting those pics with pics of TG's MD11 seats. They've come very far indeed, and are proceeding quite smoothly with the reconfig. The Golden Goose will always be my favourite of course - but can't complain with TG's much cheaper prices on certain routes.

I've always liked 777s - there's a certain coziness about them, yet the seats are more comfy in Y. But of course, on the rare occassion that I get to check out J - the upper deck rocks.

The ICN SKL is a great lounge, probably my favourite outside SIN. SIN only wins becasue of the Dom.

ICN is a great airport, and the SKL is one of the biggest lounges there. It's on two sides. Bearing in mind the exellent SKL facilities at ICN, it makes you wonder why they've not got one at Suvarnabhumi. I'm sure trekkie will put it down to more SQ cutbacks.

I had a bulkhead on the new TG J on their A346 on MEL-BKK earlier this year. Very nice indeed, probably helped with having no seatmate.

One can only imagine what the person sat next to 'MagicalChaz' makes of his behaviour.
