  • Delta MD-88 Final Flight on 2 June 2020

Delta flew it's last MD-88 flight yesterday, on 2 June. They have been flying these "Mad Dogs" for 33 years, since 1987. And before that, Delta was the launch customer for its predecessor, the DC-9, in 1965.

From the CNN report, although there were some COVID-19 restrictions, such as limited seating capacity on the final flight, the atmosphere onboard was still one befitting a final flight.

Is this the last major carrier to fly the MD-88?

Apparently so. AA retired ther MD-80's in September 2019.

According to Wikipedia as of June 2020 there are still 151 MD-80 series planes still flying, but the names of the carriers listed don't look familiar (LASER airlines, Aeronaves TSM etc).
