    St Regis, Singapore
    Tanglin Rd

This is a fairly new property and the majority of taxi drivers do not really know where it is, so best to have the hotel address handy.

The extremely modern facade of the hotel stood in stark contrast with the very ornate decor. The contradiction didn't end there - taipeiflyer mentioned that they played techno music in the gym.

Stayed here for 1 night, and crashed in with taipeiflyer and HRH cousinoftaipeiflyer. taipeiflyer used Cash and Points for the room - fantastic value (think it was 9000 pts and USD150/night) considering the BAR of SGD450ish. We did not get the massive suite that jhm wrote about but nonetheless it's still a decent sized room for 3 people.

Had a nice big LCD in the bedroom however I think it's broken as neither of us could figure out how to turn on the sound. It also couldn't really be turned off either, the best we could do was get it down to a blank screen.

I like the bathroom best of all - despite the decor it was a massive bathroom and rather functional. There's even a small TV in there. Amenities by Remede as previously mentioned - love the smell of the shampoo.

The service was pretty good; I love the efficiency. But as mentioned previously by a few people, the service can get rather 'much.' An entourage greeted us whenever we appeared at the lobby, and there was always someone insisting on carrying even the smallest of bags for you and an employee or two dedicated to pressing lift buttons on your behalf. And as in some hotels I've stayed at in Thailand - people to escort you to toilets. I thought it was all hilarious initially but then it got a bit annoying after a while. I'm not sure I require that level of attention. We also had a mini send off party... I suspect HRH got mistaken for royalty.

So far the best of the crop in SIN as far as SPG is concerned. Will come back if I am short of stay credits and the price is right.
All opinions shared are my own, and are not necessarily those of my employer or any other organisation of which I'm affiliated to.

I stayed there for the 3rd time last night. I checked in around 1am (and left about 8 hours later) and was upgraded only to a Grande Deluxe room. The check-in person did mention without prompting the entitlement to a suite as a PLT but apologised that there were none available.

Totally OTT - I noticed that the first sheet of the toilet paper waiting to be used has a St Regis logo imprinted on it!

Brekkies at the ground floor restaurant, Les Saveurs was included in my rate. It seems to have changed from the last time I ate there about a year ago - they had an avocado eggs benedict then but now it's the standard one. The eggs benedict was only average (I had a much better version at the Shangri-La Valley Wing a few years ago) and the pot of tea literally tasted awful (it had some sort of flavour (not Earl Grey nor Lapsang Souchong) ?!?).

The help yourself breakfast buffet spread looked tired and uninspired (compared to, say, recent stays this trip at the Westin Tokyo with their fabulous freshly baked cakes and pastries (so good that I was looking forward to it); and the Westin Taipei with an omelette and ham station and quite a decent selection of hot food).

Unlike my first stay when the SIN St Regis had just soft opened, I see now that they have 3-4 pages of instructions on how to do what should be basic things like operate the fiendishly complicated lighting system; play music; etc.

Another stay (for longer than 8 hours!) in a few days so will see how that goes...

            This should be SOP.

Aren't pastries in Japan THE BEST? The thing I always miss the most is my Diamond Breakfast at the PHT -- Chocolate Croissants and HOT coffee.

As I'm headed to S'pore in Feb, is this THE PLACE to stay? I know jhm said a while back that he hadn't stayed at the other properties... Does anyone else have thoughts regarding this?

How's the upgrading lately? Seemed to be quite good last year when they opened, but luck seems to be changing...

            Danke.

It's THE PLACE to stay amongst the SPG properties by far (given what I've read about the others). IMO, if you're not interested in SPG, it's not currently THE PLACE to stay compared to other SIN hotels I've stayed in.

Alas "THE PLACE" doesn't quite exist in SIN...

If at all, and this is a stretch, maybe the Shangri-la Valley Wing if you're definition of "The Place" is the opposite of the New New Thing...?

Or... the Raffles if you're an 70-something from Arizona on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Asia...

Otherwise, in no particular order St. Regis, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, The Fullerton, Ritz Carlton, The Conrad...

MO too (I particularly like the Club rooms with access to the very nice lounge and 8pm checkout).

Or if after nightlife, staying somewhere like Orchard Towers may be interesting ?

Come on. All SR's do this...as do all Hyatt Regency's.

Between the Shang, Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, MO, and SR...maybe the Conrad and the Fullerton (which looks interesting), which do you guys like? Recent renovation date is key -- which is why I took off the Grand Hyatt since they haven't done the rooms since 2003.

I've heard the lounge at the MO is nice with decent champagne.

                      And what's wrong with Raffles?

SR is winning as I have points to spare.

Please keep in mind, all will be compared to the PHT (Park Hyatt Tokyo [for milehighj ]), my second home.

If I were you I'd go for the St. Regis given it's the newest, and you have SPG status which may swing a Suite...

Just checked-in this morning - was told that suites are "tight" so only an upgrade to a grande deluxe room on a high floor. I'm not fussed - the room is nice enough.

Out of 4 stays so far at this property, 1 suite upgrade (the first time I stayed after it had just soft opened - post 1 of this thread); 1 no upgrade at all (i.e. a normal exec deluxe room; a few days after the 1st stay); and today and a few days ago, an upgrade to a grande deluxe room.

For a morning newspaper, they offer the Financial Times but not the Singapore New Paper anymore! Where will I get my daily fix of serious news ?

5th stay last week - hotel "a bit full" (as always ) so no upgrade.

6th stay last night - bingo!

A total of 2 suite upgrades out of 6 stays.

At the moment, it's only S$82 (all inclusive) more than the Sheraton so a no brainer to stay at the StR which (having experienced the Sheraton last week for the first time) is a much better hotel despite the garish decor and less convenient (for the MRT) location.
