On Tuesday, Singapore Airlines took delivery of its first two Boeing B777-300ER (extended range) aircraft, in a ceremony held at the Boeing Field in Seattle, United States.

The aircraft are the first of the 19 B777-300ERs that Singapore Airlines ordered in August 2004. Six of these new planes will be delivered before the end of 2006, and ten will be in service by mid-2007.

“With its use of new generation avionics and materials, high fuel efficiency, and commonality with our existing fleet, the B777-300ER will deliver improved operating performance,” said Mr. Chew Choon Seng, Singapore Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer.

“The new technology we acquire with these aircraft maintains our policy of operating a young and modern fleet, striving to improve environmental performance through the integration of new technology,” he added.

All B777-300ERs will be fitted with the new suite of Singapore Airlines cabin products. Customers can look forward to some of the industry’s largest First and Business Class seats with fully flat beds, a more spacious and comfortable Economy Class, and an enhanced KrisWorld inflight entertainment system featuring over 1,000 options, plus a suite of office applications. Singapore Airlines will deploy its B777-300ER aircraft on routes within Asia, the United States and Europe.

The aircraft will enter commercial service on the Singapore-Paris route on 5 December 2006, and subsequently on one of the daily Singapore-Hong Kong flights (from 6 December) and Singapore-Milan-Barcelona (from 20 December) routes.

Deployment to Zurich, Seoul and San Francisco will follow in January, and Frankfurt in May, 2007.

The B777-300ER is a twin-engine wide-bodied aircraft, with a range of 7,880 nautical miles (14,594 kilometers). It is powered by two General Electric GE90-115B engines, incorporating modern technology to ensure maximum fuel efficiency and noise reduction.

Singapore Airlines has configured the aircraft with 278 seats in 3 classes: 8 First Class, 42 Business Class and 228 Economy Class. The aircraft is 74m long, has a wingspan of 65m and is almost 20m high at the tail. It has a maximum take-ff weight of around 351 tonnes, and can fly around 15 hours.

Hmmm......on Tues, 9V-SWA was already home. I know SWB & SWD are currently still there. An EK 77W is flying to DXB later today but no SQ yet. We'll see
