  • 2011 travel - what were yours like?

I'm still working it out and all... but what were your travel totals and highlights for 2011?

  • #2
Have not totalled up but the highlight would have been taking my daughter to Disneyland for the 1st time and seeing how happy she was. She did not know in advance we were going.

Still working it all out too, but at least 65 segments over 187,357 BIS miles.

      - 1x op-up (CGK-SIN)
      - 1x go-around (CDG)

Highlight was a mid-summer trip to a certain European city, involving my first time sitting on the lower deck of an SQ A388, and the company of a couple of prominent SQT'ers (one of whom sang a song).

highlight was flying into Caracas, Venezuela .... expecting hassle at immigration and customs but surprisingly walk out of airport in less then 30 minutes......

then discovering that the price of petrol is 1 cent per liter...

and stepping back in time.... (in Singapore, this is a sculpture depicting the old days...)

then there was a trip to Panama City and seeing an amazing glass tower.... so surreal...

My destinations are hardly half as exciting as Kapitan's.

                Records for 2011:
                Longest International:
                Origin-Destination = SIN-DME-IAH = 11154 miles (great circle) x 3 trips
                Non-Stop = SIN-EWR = 9535 miles x 3 trips

                Shortest International:
                Non-Stop = SIN-IST = 5388 miles x 1 trip

The rest somewhere in between - too tedious to add up, but nothing close to the above members! All on SQ J except 2 flights (thank God)

                Longest delay = 23.5 hours

                Free upgrades = None

Eventful flights = None - no massive turbulence, no go-arounds, no near crashes

Worst part of flying = long immigration/security queues, long wait for baggage

Funniest story = American colleague, not knowing how to flip open J bed, sits throughout 18 hour flight EWR-SIN (And too much of a man, to accept help from a sarong kebaya girl!)

Mine was disappointing to say the least (is there a prize for the lowest mileage total in 2011?!):

                      Jan 2011: LH Y ZRH-BHX
                      Dec 2011: BA Y LGW-BLQ-LGW, BE BHX-SZG

                      ...2,704 miles

The BLQ turn was an unexpected business trip in early December, otherwise the total would've been 1,302! Thankfully, 18,515 already booked and ticketed for 2012

Definitely didn't expect to travel that much in 2011. Ended up with ~120K miles thanks to a couple of work trips to the states, unexpected good deals/mistakes and redemptions. End result was a ton of fun, wonderful memories and one too many days off work

Looking into 2012, have another 1-2 trips to the states for work again and hoping for a move/long term assignment. Have trips booked in EK suites and A380 F - shower here I come! Need to come up with a "Kyo like bathroom picture" Trying to find time for a trip to Bora Bora to burn all my BMI miles and Hilton points/free nights before they devalue..
