  • Wellington to Singapore via Mel

I’m flying business class from WLG to SIN next week, am I able to access the MEL lounge when in transit? What is the transit procedure at MEL? Thanks

Hello seanwhit! For SQ248 WLG-MEL-SIN you are able to use the MEL SilverKris Lounge during the MEL transit stop. After arrival in MEL there is a need to clear security before re-entering the airside area where lounge is located.

Info source: I asked the MEL SilverKris Lounge staff when I was there this week.

Just got off SQ248 in Melbourne a short while ago, and can confirm what yflyer was saying in that when you disembark you turn left for transit passengers from which you will be able to gain lounge access.

Out of interest, were there many people on your flight?

Just wondering when this service will have an equipment change to the A350/B787-10?

          Happy New Year!

It's a flight that is complex to roster planes for due to flight times and it's pattern of days. At the moment the new planes are being assigned to short, regular routes that they can cover on a daily basis. Until they build up a decent fleet of the 787s or regional A350s, WLG will probably keep getting the older 772s.

              Equipment change SQ247/248

Can anyone confirm that the aircraft will change on this service post 1st June 2019.

This info re Melbourne flights was going around, shows it as changing to A359.

Updated Singapore Airlines flights from June 1, 2019. The 777-200 is to be replaced by a mixture of A350-900s and 787-10s.

                Thank you.

Does not make any sense in some of the info above.

SQ228 is under 77W, but the SIN-MEL flight (SQ227) is showing 78X and SQ237/267 are showing A359/78X. so where did the 77W came from?

SQ267 is on 78X but the return flight SQ258 is on A359?

maybe the SQ247 part is true but so far no further update by SQ..

I agree, this information is full of inconsistencies and the errors you have noted are correct by my analysis as well.

I don't know how well this would go down with J travellers to lose two 77W flights per day (and night!) and have them replaced with the new regional product which is getting mixed reactions. It would also reduce F capacity on MEL down to the daily A380 flight. Depending on which A350 they are planning to deploy, and my assumption based on these flight times would be the regional one, that's also a major stripping back of PEY but also a gigantic boost to Y seat counts, particularly if the 78X is deployed.

My guesses at what could be correct:

SQ207/8, SQ217/8 are not changed in this information.

SQ237 & SQ257 should read as 77W as these flights supply the return SQ228. That is what they are presently scheduled to be.

SQ247/8 would make sense to go A359 regional. I would then predict that SQ258 would indeed be an A359, but so would SQ267. That would be a direct swap each day from the regional 772 to the regional A359.

SQ227/238 could possibly be shifting to a 78X IF this info is correct.

SQ is still selling PE seats on SQ227/238 for July and onwards...

I think we might have our answer then. The 78X is false information.

The A350 regional replaces the 772 on SQ247/8 and SQ267/58 making it a daily deployment. Simple swap of one aircraft per day.

Seemed that SQ247/248 SIN-MEL-WLG will go x5 weekly beginning 1st Jan 2020. The extra flight will depart on Weds ex SIN, with the return sector on Thu ex WLG.

No mentioned about a change of aircraft for the route though, however. Still good for WLG travellers I guess...

Yeah that information that appeared on here about going A350 in June turned out to be fake news. Will have to change eventually though because they won’t have enough 772s left to service this route by early next year.

That’s true, given that the 772s days are certainly numbered...

Except for the usual seasonal swap from A388 to 77W on 217's rotation (1 August -- 26 October), and the addition of a Wednesday frequency to 247's rotation from 1 January, 2020, there are no equipment changes to any of the MEL schedules through the end of the Northern Winter timetable. There aren't any changes even in the 2020 Northern Summer timetable -- but that's likely just a draft at this point. 257/267 and their returns disappear end of this month (July) and, as of now, don't appear again in 2020.
