      Date/Day: 2 December 2009/Wednesday
      Flight Number: MH 2
      Carrier: Malaysia Airlines
Route: Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR)
Departure Time: 00:20 hour Malaysian time (GMT +8 ) [Delayed by 25 minutes]
Arrival Time: 05:30 hour British time (GMT 0)
      Journey: 13 hour 30 minutes

      The Supper

00:50 As the aircraft fast approaching its assigned cruising altitude, the seat belt sign was switched off and the cabin crews sprung into action with the distribution of a salted nuts served in a saucer and another round of drinks. Two cabin crews in charged of the cabin, which are Leading Steward 'Mr. B' and LFS Noraziah while Leading Steward 'Mr. S' in charged of the galley (B and S being the nicknamed I had for them. It's not a BS, I swear LOL).

A minute later, LFS Noraziah returned to my seat and prepared my table for the supper. The dark red napkin that was used in this ceremony is kept inside the compartment in the middle of the cabin, in front of seat 3D and 3G. She then approached all 4 of us with a Menu on her hands, taking our meal orders. Cutlery and serving plates followed soon after.

LS 'Mr. B' and LFS Noraziah returned into the cabin shortly after with a meal trolley. Mr. 2A had the privilege of being served first.

The trolley then reached me and LS 'Mr. B' gently placed a white napkin on my lap, which I thought very nice of him. He continued doing so to me in the remaining meals service throughout the flight.

The supper started with MH's signature dish – the world's famous Malaysian satay, served with nasi himpit, cucumber, raw unions with a dipping peanut sauce.

I was asked by LS 'Mr. B' on the combinations that I wanted, to which I replied only 1 stick of beef satay as I prefer the chicken version much more. I was given 4 sticks of chicken satay and 1 stick of beef satay in the end. The whole plate was prepared from the trolley, right in front of me.

A wet towel served in a saucer accompanied the satay, which I found most thoughtful as our hands tend to be dirty when handling the satay sticks.

My verdict: The satay is delicious. However, being a Malaysian who loves satay and have family members who are good in making one, I have to say that MH's satays taste very much like the mass-produced Ayamas satays. The taste is lacking this authentic x factor.

The ceremony continued with the real appetizer. I was given a choice of 2:

      i. Fresh Fine Lettuce Mixed (lightly tossed in Caesar dressing or French vinaigrette)
ii. Green Lentil Cream Soup (served with herb croutons and fresh cream)

To which I choosed the latter. A selection of breads was also offered and I requested 2 slices of garlic bread from LFS Noraziah.

My verdict: The soup was delicious and the breads were fabulous. Perfect marks for MH in this round.

Up next was the main course. 5 main courses were offered, as follows:

      i. Jumbo Prawn Curry (accompanied with steamed rice and sautéed okra)
ii. Beef Tenderloin with Creamy Morel Sauce (complemented with gratin potato and roasted vegetables with herbs)
iii. Pinenut Herb Crusted Fillet of Fish (coated kingklip fish fillet served with saffron dill sauce, roasted new potato and seasonal vegetables)
iv. Chicken Kurma (slow braised chicken thigh cooked with chilli, herbs, and coriander paste served with tomato rice and sautéed mixed vegetables)
      v. Stir-Fried Mixed Seafood (served with noodles, siew pak choy, carrots and black mushroom)

Since I was craving for a Western food at the time, obviously I choosed main course no. 2.

My verdict: Again, MH nailed this one. Simply delicious!

Then out of sudden, there seemed to be a rush by LFS Noraziah to clear my table and the napkin, even before the final meal was served. I just gave in because I don't know what she was doing in the first place.

LS 'Mr. B' then came to me with the final meal, a plate of fresh seasonal fruits with a cup of tea that I selected, serving them on my half folded table.

In the Menu, it was listed that MH served a selection of gourmet coffee and tea, but I was not being informed about the selection. It was simply a normal teh-O with sugar.

My verdict: Thumb down. Too bad the whole affairs ended abruptly and I still don't have any idea of what exactly happened. False alarm? I ate too slow? I was also puzzled by the dismissal of any beautifully decorated desserts/cakes from the menu, like what I always see in other First Class trip reports. Apparently my desert was just the fruits. Was it omitted because it was a supper and not a dinner proper?

        The Breakfast

I woke up at around 10:30 Malaysian time, 10 hours into the flight. I was unsure on where the location was, but we obviously have entered the European airspace. Breakfast serving to the other 3 passengers has commenced when I left my seat to freshen up.

Again, the ceremony began with LFS Noraziah laid down the dark red table linen and the utensils, while LS 'Mr. B' gently laid down the white napkin on my lap.

First up, the starters, which consist of the followings:

        i. Fresh seasonal fruits (starring a dragon fruit who seemed to be having a full erection in the early morning LOL)

ii. Cornflakes (or muesli which is served on request with a choice of fresh full cream or low fat milk). Sugar is offered too to add in more sweetness.

iii. A selection of breads and a fresh fruit juice, to which I choosed a croissant but decided to skip the juice.

My verdict: It was ok, nothing special anyway. It was the ordinary breakfast starters that can be found in most kitchens on the ground.

Up next was the main course. I was offered with 4 selections of breakfast, as follows:

        i. Crabmeat Omelette (accompanied with chicken sausage, cherry tomato, sautéed mushrooms, edamame beans and lyonnaise potato)
ii. Nasi Lemak (served with prawn sambal and chicken rending – this is a fragrant rice cooked in coconut leaves and pandanus leaves with its spicy sambal accompaniment. Peanuts, anchovies, cucumber, and boiled egg complete the meal)
iii. Mixed Grill with Rosemary Garlic Parsley Sauce (fillet of beef, lamb cutlet and chicken sausage, complimented with sautéed mushrooms and edamame beans)
iv. Warm Teleccio Bread and Butter Pudding (served with vanilla sauce and caramelized pineapple)

As I was in the mood for something that is not too heavy, but not too light either, I opted for option no. 1.

My verdict: Delicious. A well prepared breakfast. I was a happy bunny.

The breakfast was concluded with a serving of a selection of gourmet coffee and tea, which I skipped.

For the interest of all, the whole breakfast meals were prepared in the galley and brought over to the passengers individually. Only the coffee and tea serving was done using the trolley.

A bit of a reflection on the meals. In MH's website, it was mentioned that:

Ok, the satay was there, the food was quite there, but I was not being informed by the cabin crew members about the SKYSNAX and the sandwiches. Overall, I think the food on offer is quite low key. The quantity of offerings is there but I think MH's lack a quality food from its First Class menu, in general. What do you guys think? This may be my first time flying aboard First Class, but we all have lived in so many other First Class trip reports from the experience of our fellow forum members to be able make comparison.

For the interest of everyone, here are the snapshots of the Menu Booklet. The scanner is acting up, I hope this is sufficient.

          Note:
From a friend's experience flying in MH's First to AMS a month after my journey, the cover design of the menu booklet has been changed. However, the menu remained the same.
