  • Bid To Upgrade?

    Hello,

I'm a travel journalist for The Straits Times and I am looking for comments for a story I am writing about bid to upgrade programs.

Airlines like Star Alliance carriers (Lufthansa, Swiss, Air New Zealand and South African) and others, Etihad, Cathay, Virgin Atlantic, etc. allow eligible customers with economy class tickets to bid on an upgrade to business class.

Customers receive an email about the upgrade opportunity with a link to the bidding site where customers can see the minimum bid and put in their offer accordingly. Customers whose bids have been successful are informed anywhere from 72 to four hours before the flight.

Has anyone used this service? I'd like to speak with you about it for my article:

When did you use it? How much did you pay? Did you think it was effective/worth it?

And also, for Business Class passengers who have paid the full fare:
How do you feel about the bid to upgrade service? Do you think it's fair?

I would love to get your feedback. You can email me with your thoughts and contact details and I will follow up from there.

    Your help is much appreciated!
